If I *had* to choose, I’d pick being the second choice. Being a last resort feels like, “Well, nothing else worked, so… you’ll do.” That’s soul-crushing. Second choice at least means they genuinely liked me, even if someone else came first.
Still hurts, but it’s less degrading than being the emergency backup plan.
