If I *had* to choose, I’d pick being the second choice. Being a last resort feels like, “Well, nothing else worked, so… you’ll do.” That’s soul-crushing. Second choice at least means they genuinely liked me, even if someone else came first.

Still hurts, but it’s less degrading than being the emergency backup plan.

Second choice is not too bad but there needs to be love from the chooser rather than I can live with that person but will never love that person.

If there is love does that the person an equal first? I don't really know but I think that would be the case for me.

Last resort seems to be the very minimum needed to cohabit without love and it could be second and last resort.

I don't mind being second choice if I'm treated like the first choice. That does happen. As we get to know someone, we learn to appreciate what they are giving us. The first choice that we don't have is often just a crush.

I choose second choice, because in my experience, many people's first love doesn't work out and they still have very good relationships with who they end up with, other than rebound relationships.
