What sort of folks do you trust?

Some people earn the trust of others very easily.

Others break trust (and seem shady) regularly.

It's perhaps just their personality, but it's also something in their actions and words as well.

What does a person do to earn your trust?

People that are respectful and kind and not selfish towards me. is usually the ones I will end up trusting and becoming friends’ with. I use to have a ton of friends when I was younger , but as time went on that number started going downwards , I don’t hate them , I just lost respect and trust for some of them and don’t really consider them good friends’ anymore , once a friend betrays me or talks shit about me behind my back , that’s usually my final straw and I lose respect for them. I can’t stand backstabbers and liars and selfish people , that think their shit doesn’t stink , I also don’t care for judgmental people that act like they are better than everyone. They become complete morons to me by having that type of mindset. I am respectful and kind to everyone that is respectful and kind towards me , I pretty much give what I expect to receive in return , which is respect , when I feel respected by someone , I will take the shirt off my back if need be for them but the second I am betrayed it’s pretty
Much over unless they are respectful enough to apologize to my face and own up to their mistake , it also depends on what they did to me lol

It's the people who are honest and kind.

People who listen empathetically, and give advice with the intention of genuinely helping and believing in you rather than it coming from a place of ego and trying to show they know better than you.

It's also those who are honest about everything... and humble. Even if they're in a good place in life, they don't look down on you based on where you are. They just say things as they see it, but with kindness. If they're in a bad place in life, I prefer honesty about it rather than trying to hide that fact.

How do you know a person is actually being honest — that it’s not an act?

I would have thought that YOU know this, as someone who's able to read people pretty well.

For me, it's the vibe they have. The vibe comes from pattern recognition in tone of voice and body language. It becomes instinctual or intuition the more you live life. When their eyes look at you or move in a certain way, when their body shifts a certain way, when they speak with confidence or lack of confidence, etc. It's all small signals to whether someone is genuine or not. And then there's obvious stuff like sharing embarrassing things about yourself or mistakes you've made in the past. Nothing speaks genuine like honesty about your flaws, mistakes, and negative aspects about yourself (which everyone has).

The US military believes this and is training their soldiers to develop this skill because of the many dangerous situations have been avoided because of someone's ability to detect the vibe of a dangerous person using that intuition.

Meh. I trust folks with certain things within their standard bandwidth but then there are folks I never trust.

When I was dating, I looked for a woman who was kind and gentle, and experience told me that such women were trustworthy, so. . . I gave such a woman my trust (gradually) unless and until she gave me a reason to not trust her.

Right now I trust my 22 year old mechanic I found online. Last Thanksgiving I was in a real crunch because I needed a vehicle to get to work ASAP. I found one for $1,500, and naturally it needed a little work. So as I made some money, things got fixed. Latest project was new air conditioning... which is a must in Texas. I trust that he won't rip me off, and every repair he's done has been legit. I have missed zero days of work since due to my vehicle being disabled. Shout out to my man Moises!

People who stay employed at a single place and at least attempt to properly maintain their car. Even if its a lemon. Those two factors tell a lot about someone's character.

I trust an honest person. It is enough for him/she to just be himself. Whether or not to trust people is my choice.

I trust everyone to be an asshole to me, so i am never surprised when they do.

The betrayal used to get to me, but again I always expect it, so when it comes I just walk away.
