Why does my age-gap relationship attract such harsh judgment from others?

I’m 25 and in a happy, intense relationship with a 45-year-old woman. Recently, we shared a kiss in public, and the reaction from younger girls around us was surprisingly hostile—some even approached us to tell us it was 'wrong.'

It’s ironic, because many of those same people wouldn't hesitate to engage in casual encounters themselves, yet they feel entitled to judge my choices. Is this deep-rooted insecurity, or just a projection of societal conditioning? Why do people feel the need to police connections they don't understand? Looking for some raw perspectives.

My parents were 10 years apart. My present relationship has about a 34 year difference yet, we're already planning on marriage and kids.
It's one thing if one of the two are planning "nefarious" things once they get legally connected to the other but, if it's completely amicable, there should be no problem.
My best friend moved here from about 8 or 9 hours away, right out of high school, to be with a guy she met online who told her he was only about 23 years old. She figured, it's no big deal, he's just a few years older than her. She only had 4 months to wait to become 18.
About a year after she got here, he told her that he was really 28. Again, she was SORT OF okay with that but wasn't pleased that he lied and was actually 10 years older than her but, she figured, it's just a few more years difference.
A few months later, he told her his REAL age!! 35!! Now, she was FURIOUS!!! He'd also been accusing her of screwing people she never screwed, saying all kinds of bizarre shit to and about her but, even accused her of cheating on him with the guy that raped her as soon as she got here!! But, she still ended up marrying him and having 2 kids with him!! By the time the kids were in school, she'd FINALLY had enough of his controlling bullshit and divorced him!! They got shared custody of the kids but, while he had them (on weekends), he'd been sexually abusing them!! She eventually found out about it and had him arrested and, as far as I know, he's still rotting in jail.

Just ignore them and live your life the way you want.

There was a 30 year difference in my parents' ages, and they had a long and happy 40 year marriage.

You’re poking at people’s insecurities and unhealed stuff, big time. Age gaps trigger:
jealousy (“Why is someone my age not getting this kind of love?”),
projection (“If I dated older it’d be creepy, so it must be wrong”),
and social conditioning (“Older = predatory, younger = victim”).

You two look emotionally intense and stable, not like a drunk hook-up. That threatens people who normalize casual but panic at genuine connection.

It’s not your job to make strangers comfortable. As long as there’s no manipulation, no power abuse, and you both feel safe, their outrage is just noise and unprocessed bias, not a red flag about your relationship. 💋🔥

i'm not sure why age gap relationships get such harsh criticism when considering the fact we've opened up to so many other types of previously taboo relationships such as same sex and mixed race type.

i'm confused why anyone would say its ok for someone to date someone of the same sex or someone of a different race yet then turn around and say an age gap relationship was totally wrong and unacceptable.

the double standards here are crazy and you can't say one previously taboo relationship is now ok but another is terribly wrong

Studies have shown, that if you stfu and live your life, you will be much happier and you'll come to realize that nobody else really cares what you're doing.
