Why do people stay in toxic, abusive relationships instead of leaving?

Love is something baffling for me, toxic people choose to be toxic, and their partners suffer.
Surprisingly partners accepted the harshness, the toxicity of the abuse, mental and physical.

I have seen men being mentally harassed day in day out, scaring them by telling lies, putting them in guilt or worst telling them that they will leave them.

And women suffering so fucking much more then that.
The worst part is women endure some extra layers, child birth and their care, physical abuse and marital rape.
It's just something I can't put my head around.

I know people reject people who are abused more than people who lived a better life.
But why?
People who need love the most, never get it, they learn to hide their needs in things, fooling themselves so that they can be independent.
I just don't understand, why people then pretend to be nice. When they choose their kindness. For some people
Even though I have done that, I am a hypocrite, but I want to understand.
I keep justifying myself cause of the way they behave or how they treat me.
Which is just a normal reaction. But I don't know the truth why I do that.
Why do people stay in toxic, abusive relationships instead of leaving?
