Honestly: Opinions on sick boyfriends/girlfriends. Gross or cute?

Okay. So, I have been sick for about a week, it's getting worse. My nose is now dry and peeling from all the nose blowing. In the past my boyfriend doesn't care that I get sick. He forces me to kiss him right when I see him so that he can kiss me all he wants for the rest of the night and not worry about getting sick since he already exposed himself.

But, he hasn't seen it this bad. I think it's disgusting that my nose is all peeling. I can't breathe, so I'm having to do that through my mouth.. it's just not sexy. If the situation was reversed, I know I'd just be trying to make him feel better and I'd want to hold him and junk and his physical appearance would not matter. I would think he was cute for being so vulnerable and weak and what not.

I'm just worried I guess ha. I don't want to gross him out or anything.

I commiserate, although I actually like to be left alone when I am sick.It's an excuse to overload on hulu whilst mumbling and moaning which usually are frowned upon in polite society ((:

Unfortunately, this has been a life-long problem of mine.

Peely nose and face both happened to me a lot in my youth, less now.

Please do not mistake my advice for a know-it-all-ness :D

This is based on a lifetime of trial and error and doctoral and book advice, plus my school-teacher mother and RN godmother (:

It is meant to help.

I've done research and have found some difference reasons that seem to apply to me, but , I have very fair and unfortunately delicate skin.

I have developed psoriasis which is a pervasive condition, but otherwise it's the same as 'dry skin' and all skin conditions start inside the body.Of course, we all know that skin is an organ that is the last resort for toxins to escape through when bodies are overwhelmed with them.

Always but especially when sick

We need to drink lots of water.

We need to avoid tea,coffee,chocolate and grains until our skin has been better for a week.

Of course, cutting them altogether is best and perfectly do-able. There are plenty of forms of carb's and acids in the food chain (:

The extra fatiness of real chicken/vegetable stocks help with all-over dryness when sick.

We I am sick and blowing my nose a lot :

I only use cloth handkerchiefs and cloth rags.

The dyes in paper dry out my skin, the porousness of the paper leaches what little moisture there is.

I wash my hands whenever I wash my face but definitely when I am sick. The germs because skin inflammation which manifests amongst other ways, as dry and raw peely skin.

I make sure to bath and brush my teeth each morning and night even if I've been sick, because not only do the germs keep us from healing faster, they affect the health of our skin.

I sleep on a towel to both absorb harmful moisture which can dry out skin even more but also it exfoliates the skin. I change the towel every other day or if *ahem* 'gross'.

Our skin gets bad when it has poor blood flow too, which happens from many reasons, one of them: being bedridden. This is another reason scrubbing my face twice a day is so important when I am sick,

Finally, after I bathe, I use olive oil, just a fingernail-sized drop, worked first into my fingertips and nails and then gently massaged on my nose and then finally inside my nostrils and then I rinse and dry my hands and apply more olive oil if needed.

I usually save a little bottle of it for when I am sick.

I also use a neti pot with warm salt water when I am stuffy because stuffiness leads to runny nose and so on :p

It cuts way back on my nose blowing !

I use my neti pot after I brush my teeth, before my baths.

Netis can get germs all over our faces and dry out our skin from the water so I like to do it before I'll be moisturizing.

As far as the peeling/dry nose, I got you girl.

As far as the boyfriend problem, I can try.

Your nose is suffering due to the acidic nature of mucus. Your nose is SUPER DRY right now, and your lips will be dry to since you are forced to breathe from your mouth. So here's what you should do:

1. if you have any, use those special "lotionized" tissues. Or even just soft tissues. Stay away from using paper towels, toilet paper, or other harsh tissue-like substances on your nose.

2. exfoliate a bit. if you have a facial brush like the clairsonic, use the lowest setting and gently use it around the dry area. if you have a traditional facial pad, gently rub the area in circular motions. if you have neither of these things, take a soft washcloth, and get it wet with warm water and gently rub it around the area to exfoliate the dead, peeling skin. if you find that it burns or is too irritating, stop. however, it should sting a bit; that's normal.

try this on your lips if they are chapped. it will make them smooth and supple.

3. now you want to use a moisturizer. because of the dry, peeling, irritated skin I suggest aloe vera gel. you know, the kind for sunburns. If you don't have that, look for a facial moisturizer with aloe vera in it. If you don't have that either, use a regular moisturizer for sensitive skin. continue to use this throughout the day.

your nose will be red, but that's to be expected.

Now on to the boyfriend "problem." I don't see a problem. If he's helped you out when you were sick before, he'll be of assistance now. And hell! your his girlfriend! I'm sure he adores you! and men love it when they can "save" their woman. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Most, if not all, guys who genuinely care about their girlfriend won't be bothered by their being sick and will want to take care of them. It goes with their protective nature. I was sick a couple of weeks ago and I was staying at my boyfriend's apartment so I was being extra careful to not leave icky tissues lying around. Then he bitched at me for sneaking away to the bathroom so much and told me to "make myself at home and let my snot rags pile up on the coffee table." If it bothered your boyfriend he wouldn't force you to kiss him while you're sick. Don't stress about it :)

A quick fix for dry skin and peeling :  I personally think the 2nd link is the best. Anyways, I find a girl sick kinda cute. They are trying so hard to look good and trying to take care of themselves without being appearing gross. He is probably trying to tell you it's OK, but if your insecure just apply the above products. Good luck ;-)

If she is sick, I'm her servant, it makes me feel a lot better about myself that I can go out of my way to help her when she needs it...just thinking about it now makes me all "awwwwww" lol

i'd def would have taken airbourne and lots of vitamin C while caring for her tho...

Get some tissues with aloe if you aren't allergic to it. Maybe put some lotion on the nose too. Mucinex might work to clear up your system but drink lotsssss of water. I emphasize lots because one gallon won't cut it.

There are other suppressants that work and mask the symptoms. A glass of Black Berry Brandy might help at night to sweat it out. Stuff is nasty though and used as a last resort.

This reminds me of an episode of Two and a Half Men where Charlie had a guest over who was sick. He gave her nasal spray and she thanked him. He said she'd need it for later. Hope you feel better. :)

i think that's pretty disgusting. lol, no doubt I agree when you say it's cute for being vulnerable and such, but when the nose is running and you sound clogged up. I'd prefer to just cuddle to make sure you stay warm along and have you drink a BIG cup of orange juice. Put on the movie Pulp Fiction. Yeah, thatd be awesome.

My point is, there's other ways to show affection than kissing. Try explaining that to him and see if he understands. If not, the hell with it. kiss him.

i feel gross when I'm sick too...i feel gross in the winter, rashes on my face and all that nasty stuff :/ I just use some a&d ointment. it always help my flakey nose! just not my eye lids :(

he don't mind when I'm sick though. he just wipes up my nose and makes me soup. never stopped him from having sex with me too. who cares if its not sexy! everyone gets sick!

I wouldn't be grossed out by my boyfriend if he was sick, but I might not want to kiss him. I don't have the best immune system, and as much as I love kissing, to me it's not worth catching something. As far as peeling skin and such, I don't think you should worry. You probably notice it more than anyone else will, and if he's a nice guy he should be understanding about it.

I am very motherly I guess you can say, I don't get grossed out by anything like that, when my guy is sick I just want to do what I can to make him better. and for your nose, try steaming your face or hot showers, it will moisturize your skin and the mucus will clear out, just let time do the healing.

I think it's pretty adorable. And every time I get sick my nose chaifs up like that, the only solution I have found is chap stick! Vaseline, or any unscented, unperfumed chapstick will do. I find that using lotions just irritate my skin, besides, putting chemically lotion directly onto raw, peeling skin stings like a b-, also, buy "puff plus cooling lotion tissues" they are very lotiony and moist and have cooling and soothing aloe,.

It doesn't bother me at all. I loveeee taking care of him! I make him his favorite food and get a good movie to watch and he's usually pretty happy :) I also usually make him something for the next morning if I have to work so he wakes up to something yummy. I usually just put a warm rag over my nose which helps also a humidifier could do wonders! You could also try some facial lotion maybe a lotion for chapped or broken skin. Feel better soon!

Be proactive on the moisturizer, and maybe try a different tissue that has more lotion built into it.  I'm with you, I think its cute in a vulnerable "I want to take care of you and nurse you back to health" sort of way.  I don't know if I would be needlessly exposing myself to your illness.  I'm not a germaphobe nor am I too keen on getting sick with you.

I don't like how he looks when he's sick and personally I'm a bit of a germaphobe so I get very antsy whenever he coughs or sneezes around me. But at the same time, yes it's super adorable when he gets all fussy and pouty because of a little flu so despite all that, I DO like to come over and take care of him.

nuetrogena lotion is really good for dry facial skin, however, jergens or nivea body lotion works too...it probably wouldn't make you break out. also, vaseline is super moisturizing but it can make you break out.

I don't think he thinks any less of you because you are sick! you can't control when your sick or what your symptoms are! don't worry so much!

Whenever I'm on my period and I have cramps I feel like I'm sick and I don't stay away from my boyfriend but I make sure to warn him.  If you don't want to be around him when you're this sick just tell him you're feeling really badly and if he can just bring you some soup or something... I'm sure he's been that sick before so it's not like he doesn't know what being really sick looks like.
