I think the word "love" is too broad a term. Ever try to break down how many different ways you can use it?

It's no wonder that people get so confused about it all the time.

I'm not claiming any of these as specific to me, but giving examples:

I love my family.

I love my dog.

I love my wife.

I love my kids.

I love my car.

I love that painting.

I love that dish.

It seems like we should have separated these into different words by now as each one of these situations is different in every aspect accept for the aspect of "appreciation."

Watch:

I appreciate (a variety of aspects of) my family.

I appreciate (the low investment company of) my dog.

I appreciate (physically, visually, emotionally) my wife (as she pertains to most aspects of my life).

I appreciate (observing the growth and personal development of) my kids.

I appreciate (the cosmetics of) my car (and what it does to my social status).

I appreciate (the visual qualities of) that painting.

I appreciate (the flavor of) that dish.

Hell, it might just be better to swap the word out for "appreciate" come to think of it and to add the "why and what-for" into the appreciation when necessary.

What do you think?

Not a lot of support for getting rid of the word I guess *=/

The point I'm trying to make is that every one of these situations feels different enough (to me) to warrant a verbal distinction, though with the English language there is typically no distinction. I'm pretty sure this confuses people, when it doesn't really need to.
