Do you choose friends based on looks?

This is an argument my friend and I got into earlier today. She made an observation that people mainly choose friends based on looks and age. I've honestly never observed this, and I don't do this myself so I told her that she wrong. I have many friends who are overweight, skinny, average, etc. I choose friends based on how well we connect. I've never taken looks into consideration. I also have friends in all age groups. My cousin is 17 and I get along with her friends. I have friends in their 30's and 40's as well.

She says she only hangs out with good-looking people and people in their 20's. However, she is wrong since she hangs out with me and I think I am ugly.

Help solve an argument please. I want to show her this page if I get enough answers. Who is wrong and who is right? I personally think I am right.

I don't buy that. I see plenty of hot girls with ugly friends when they come to parties. Most of my personal friends are in my age range (early 20's to mid) but there's a few acquaintances that are a bit older or younger, like siblings of my friends. Can't say I've chosen my friends because of their looks as I have a varied group. A few dudes are ladies men and are definitely good looking. One of my closer ones has a lot of acne still which doesn't matter to me. Some are chubby and some are skinnier than even me. I suppose if they looked like creepers then I might stray away from meeting them in the first place.

When it comes to facial features, no, I don't discriminate. That being said, I am wary over overweight people and becoming friends with them. Most overweight people are not overweight due to medical reasons, but rather due to self-control reasons. I try not to make friends with people that have issues with self-control, be it with food, finances, drugs, booze or anything else for that matter. I wouldn't rule it out, but If an overweight person wanted to be my friend, they better be making an effort to loose the weight.

My best friend is freakishly tall, overweight, no sense of style, and shaggy, long red hair. But he is still my best friend no matter what. I love his imperfections.

well yeah, especially since the majority of my friends are girls and I love men. So I don't see why it would matter if my girlfriends were beautiful for not. One of my best friends is a 40 year old woman I work with. It's easier for me to relate with her then any girl my own age and I am 25.

I only make friends with people who bear a marked resemblance to Abraham Lincoln. I'm not certain as to why, but it's just how I've always been.
