I wanna know what's guys reason for this. It can't be the cliche, "she waited before we had sex" because I know people who got into relationships after sleeping together after only knowing each other for a few weeks.

For a lot of guys there are two types of girls, there's the "cute" one and the "hot" one. The "hot" one is the one they would have sex or what would be "f-buddy material". The cute one is pretty but her attractiveness is based on different features like hair, face and personality while the hot girl is based on how curvy or thin she is and her "fun parts". The cute is definitely girlfriend material. She's the one you like for her kindness, her personality, the fact that she shares and listens. She wants to be part of your life and she wants you to be part of hers. She's sweet and is fun to be around. The "hot" one is rarely any of that, she's just seen as a body and nothing more. I don't know why a guy would see an attractive, smart girl with a good personality as f-buddy but he certainly could. What one guy sees in you can be totally different than what another sees in you. You can't really control that, its just like a first impression in a way, some guys are incredible pervs that's just the way it is. For some men there is only sex unfortunately. I look for a cute girl, the one who can be my girlfriend but at the same time I can't deny that if a girl is "hot" I wouldn't want to have sex with her.

1) I girl that compliments and assists, instead of drains and complicates, a guy's life.

2) A girl that isn't the type to playfully flirt with other guys, therefore able to be fully trusted to be faithful.

3) Emotionally and mentally stable enough to be in tune with her emotions and face them, instead of "running away" from them.

4) Healthy enough self-esteem to be able to avoid the trap of "not rejecting male attention because I need the reassurance".

Believe it or not, I find #4 such a difficult trait for a female to possess. It seems like no matter what, so many females I've known fall into the trap of not being able to SHUT DOWN male attention of interest when they have a significant other.'

I frankly can't trust a girl that feeds into a guy showing interest in her, I don't trust her enough to be mentally and emotionally strong enough to turn him down if he makes more aggressive moves.

Good looks in the way that sparks a guy's romantic interest.

A guy might only be able to fall in love with petite blondes, for instance. He'll sleep with a tall brunette, but he'll never see her as girlfriend material. Most guys have at least one "thing" that is necessary for them to fall for a girl that is completely physical. A girl can be attractive, but if she's missing that thing, he will never love her.

Among the girls who are attractive and have that physical trait that inspires strong feelings in him, the girls are whittled out by personality, similar life goals, how she treats him, etc.

I have seen "easy" girls in relationships and it baffled me because they have a rep but always seem to end up in a relationship. Then you see girls with a lot of respect for themselves single for long periods of time. Personally I think these days sex is easy to get a guys know who to target for a 'fix' now b4 people attack me I know not all men arw like that but where I am from I can easily say the ammount of 'easy' girls is cronic and embarressing bur hopefully times will change. Men aren't the only 1s carrying bad reps anymore

You should know what you want and start live accordingly. If you want to be a girlfriend, you say it to yourself and to the person you like and be certain about it. It will solve 60% of the problem from the beginning.

Girlfriend material...

1. The sort of girl one can imagine introducing to your parents.

2. Needs to be attractive, but not just hot. There needs to be an impression of innocence, or modesty, decency.

3. Feels like someone who can utterly be trusted.

4. She's not some twilight Bella sort of girl with low self-esteem. She's not arrogant, but she's steady.

Let me give you some more solid examples, from my own experience.

A girl that I wanted to steal from her boyfriend because I wanted a relationship with her (I honestly felt there was a chance it could have led to marriage in a couple of years): She was pretty cute, but dressed moderately (and with some class), not trying to show off. She was an adult, but had a slight air of innocence, and at least some virtue (somewhat religious). She seemed like a girl who wouldn't play games, and a girl you could actually trust. Also was fairly smart, with a double major, had plans, knew politics, had similar views to mine and was really sharp. Didn't do drugs, didn't drink much, seemed to have a decent relationship with her family.

A girl that offered to be FWB with me, and I turned down: fairly attractive, dressed to show off, had some family issues, different political and religious views, drinking problem, not someone I could seriously trust, probably hooked up or hit on guys often...

Hookup material is a pretty superficial connection. Typically in girls I hook up with are pretty but we may not have much chemistry personality wise, but merely physically.

1). I have gone from initial hook up buddy, to full fling so it does happen. The reason for this was getting to know them and liking what I got to know. You won't always have chemistry with the person in question.

2). I have changed my mind before. Usually it comes from finding some form of instability or insanity. For instance, she is cruel, manipulative, or otherwise unstable. If I uncover a trait that doesn't work for me, then I tend to lose interest. Everybody has their deal-breakers, but if a girl is at least willing to work on these problems, I would consider sticking around to help her through it. It's different for every guy and there really is no one answer.

You can have a SO who was a hookup buddy. One who was a friend. Intimate relationships start from all manner of other relationships. The key is expressing your interest to the guy in question. Just be honest. "Hey, (INSERT NAME HERE) I really like you and would be interested in dating you. Are you free Friday night?" That is really all it takes to show you are interested, and the guy will say yes or no. If he says no move on. Or if that isn't your thing just flirt and lay it on THICK. Find that yes, and just be yourself. Hope this helps :)

The only requirement for hookup material is that I find her attractive. Girl friend material requires that I think she is attractive but also takes into account shared interests, confidence, sense of humor and how honest her personality is.

1. The only reason I would change my mind on this is if I found her to overwhelmingly fit into everything I want out of girlfriend.

2. I changed my mind about making a girl my girlfriend was when I took her out to meet my friends and realized how immature she was compared to me and my friends even though she is older than me. I had never noticed before because we had never hung out around other people we knew before.

Someone who inspires me to be better and wants to see me grow as a whole person and someone who I feel likewise about. Loyalty is very important too. If I feel that she can would not voluntarily or involuntarily stray because she sees a "shiny new toy". Someone who is mostly secure/Independent about herself and wants me as the cherry on top of an otherwise great cake

Hooking up is all about physical attraction. A guy doesn't need to have spoken to a girl in order for him to want to hook up. It's not easy to pinpoint what makes a girl girlfriend material, things just have to click.

Also you should know that guys love the chase.. but don't play hard-to-get. A girl worth chasing after is a potential girlfriend.

- She should be respectful, honest, compassionate, loving, caring, likes to joke around. Doesn't do drugs, loves animals, shares several common interests.

hookup material isn't anything specific to the girl, that's pretty much up to the guy to think that.

I think guys like girls who are more down to earth and secure with themselves, you don't have to be perfect it's OK to feel insecure at times, its just what you do with that insecurity, you need to be able to manage your emotions and not have a fit every time things don't go your way, if you're going to be life partners you want someone who can help make you a better person, not tear you down.
