I love my boyfriend I met online, but I gave him a fake name. Now I don't know what to do?!

I met this guy on a random chat website thinking we would just talk that night and it would be over, so I have myself a fake name and picture to protect myself just in case the guy was a creep. We ended up hitting it off and after talking everyday for a couple months we said I love you to each other. I couldn't take it anymore and told him that the picture wasn't me and I showed him the real me and he still thought I was beautiful and didn't get that mad. We have now been talking for 5 months and are planning to see each other soon. He even said he would pay for more than half my flight out to canada and I can stay with his family. The problem is I still haven't told him my real name because I was afraid to at the time I told him the picture wasn't me. I regret giving him a fake name but I have no idea what to do because I honestly love him. Help me please!

The most important secret you were keeping from him was the false picture. That's a biggie & he apparently he was willing to overlook that along with the fact that he finds you're real self to be pretty. I doubt he will care if he has to go from calling you Mary to Katie. BUT here's the deal ... you guys have been talking for 5 months. Apparently things are pretty serous for you, despite the fact of meeting. If I were in his shoes -- that is-- if I met a guy online. And he had a fake picture and then 5 months later admitted this wasn't his real name, I would seriously question a lot more about him. Like, can I trust him or is he married and that's why so secretive? You need to tell him BEFORE you visit him & reassure him that that's the only other false thing about you. You're reasoning behind concealing your identity is valid. Like everyone already said, just tell him exactly what you said here. He'll more then likely understand. But you need to tell him & reassure him that it was just for protection for yourself ... not because you wanted to lie to him or anything like that.

Tell him you were afraid giving him the real name because there are many creeps. Just tell him the truth. I would def understand because there are scary creeps outside.

I was pretty much in the same situation as yours. I met my boyfriend online and I posted fake pic there.. So when he talked to me first I came straight saying the pic isn't me and showed him real me.

we met, and the first few months I was using number from text/call app.. Not my real one just in case he's a crazy creep lol I've met guys in the past wouldn't leave me alone even I didn't want to see them so.. After like 2-3 mos dating I gave him my real number and he understood.

It is scary world and its not that you lied to fool him. You did that to protect yourself. So he should understand. Just tell him all the truth so he can understand better.

Tell him your real name, when you meet him, that is, if you really want to meet him.

Don't worry about letting a white lie giving you guilt trips. You have a right to protect yourself anyway. I think he'll understand now that you knows what you look like for real and he likes your personality.

just tell him. I personally might be put off by this mislead but if he wasn't bothered by the fake picture you were using then I doubt he will be that pissed off about this. but def tell him before you go there.
