My boyfriend broke my laptop, and doesn't offer to replace it?

My boyfriend stepped on my laptop and completely broke it. To replace it would cost about $400, I got an estimate. So it's not even worth fixing it, since a new one costs just as much.

Everytime I talk to him about it, all he says is, "Oh well, just buy a new one." (With my own money, not his money). He doesn't have a job or ANY savings. My dad always bugs me about dumping him and finding someone who actually has a car, license and a job.

My parents thinks he should be responsible and replace it, or at least sell something to be able to buy me a new one. Should I expect him to buy me a new one, since it was his fault it's broken?

Well the first thing on my mind was if you left it somewhere it shouldn't have been. But even if that was the case he could have at least offered to help you out a little, even if he is broke.

But yeah, if this is on you because you left the computer on the ground just outside the door way then he shouldn't be obligated to pay. That's really your fault for being careless.

If you were both talking, you pissed him off, then he came over and stomped/stepped on it then yes, he is obligated.

Your boyfriend is an asshole. I assume he's your boyfriend because you choose for him to be your boyfriend. What does that say about you?

Have a little self-respect and leave his selfish ass and get a real boyfriend.

Of course it would be nice for him to offer to pay for a replacement, at least part of the cost as while you shouldn't have left it on the floor, he should've looked where he stepped. However, at the very least he should apologize or not be so rude/indifferent about the situation. He honestly sounds like not the best catch.

If you left it on the floor, it is kinda your fault. His not having a car, license or job are all much bigger red flags.
