If you think the universe, planets, sun, moon, animals and humans etc just happened out of thin air than good for you. It's your own mind and beliefs. I for one am a Christian and believe there is someone out there above our atmosphere that is wiser, stronger and overall all powerful and far better than we. We call him God.
Christianity was shoved down my throat when I was young but I always doubted it. It never made sense to me and the reasons you list is exactly why. I do think that "some" of the rules/teachings they go by are positive though and a positive influence. Most of it is very hypocritical though. "Love Your Neighbor as Yourself", unless they are homosexual (?).
I believe in God and have read most of the bible. I don't like organized religion, either.
Bunch of people who are going to the house of God to do things other than worshiping in the house of God.
I choose to believe because it makes me happy. Almost every atheist I know, including my best friend, just seem whiny about life. I don't complain about shit because I know life will get better as long as I keep moving forward and keep up my faith in greatness.
I'm just giving a perspective from a non fanatic believer.

I think that the seven sins are something done excessively or in ways that are damaging or destructive to you or other people. It helps establish those guidelines. I do believe there is something more... I don't think we have the answers to everything and I believe that keeping a close mind to something we don't know of yet- isn't a good thing. I always believe question everything- even what we think we know. I do agree that people have twisted religion to satisfy their own selfishness and perversions but there is the other side where religions or groups of people help their communities and give hope. With or without the belief of religion people are going to suffer- no matter what. Perhaps believing in something or someone for hope inspires people to help those who are suffering.
You happen to know a lot about religion, and as an atheist, I respect that. The majority of atheists are ignorant idiots who don't know shit about shit, but they go ahead and write random insults. However the thing about religion is that its not for idiots. Idiot atheists insult it, idiot believers follow it blindly for every word written. Religion is full of metaphores, and its there to make those who believe reach new higher levels. However its really hard to decipher. The main reason religion looks so bad is idiots on both sides not understanding it

Greed - When does it stop? Should I be greedy enough to take from the mouths of your children? Even if it means their very life? As a citizen should I not care about their well being? Envy - When does it stop? Should I covet enough to take life? Even the life of your children? Or maybe your mother? Or your sister? Or your Grams? Sloth - When does the laziness stop? Maybe I should just become a dead beat dad? Gluttony - When does it stop? Until we destroy our own body? Lust - When does it stop? Shall we play on weakness? Should we go far enough to wreck homes and rape children? Wrath - Wrath is "extreme" anger. When does it stop? Shall I destroy an entire city just to get to one man? Hypocrisy? Does God not have the right to do what he will with his on creation? When there are those who are "doing what thou wilt" every single day.

Without restraint lawlessness would prevail. And one day the "lawless one" will be revealed. To degree he's already here. Existing through those who are like minded. God does what he will. After a short run God will destroy the lawless entity.
Well I don't think anyone has a place to control others. Nature sorts itself out. Yes you've listed a lot of bad things but is the average Joe Blow going to do that sort of thing?
There is such a thing as morals. Personal codes. Not everyone wants death and destruction. Its the people in power with their own agendas that do. Joe Blow is a nice person but if someone tells him a biased story he'll be an entirely different person.
I'm only responding to the original post. Maybe I misunderstood but in that particular paragragh you seem to speak as if consequences are not real. Sinful nature must be restrained. Wickedness must be restrained. Continually acting upon the seven deadly sins will eventually incur an inevitable penalty for "anyone".
I consider myself non-denominational but I think you made some pretty good points, I've considered a lot of this stuff myself. In the end though believing there is a God has helped me through a lot of things. I think if I hadn't met God I would not have known how amazing it is to be aware that he is there for me.

Well said and written for a 19 year old girl. I agree with everything you state. Let me only add something to the persecution of pagans that you mention: even with executions and forced conversions it was difficult to force pagans to confrom with the new religion so they took pagan celebrations and adapted them to Christianity. Easter and Christmas are two pagan celebrations that were adopted by Christendom and adapted to the religion to appease the pagan people in the north.
God sends children to hell. So if a child kills themselves they go to hell because according to god they're sinners. The bible says if a woman gets raped she must marry the rapist.
The bible says if anyone has sex out of wedlock they need to die.
If you have one flaw your going to hell.
And everyone forces religion on people at this point?
Not often I read a take, and even less make a comment. This is spot on!
People believe in a religion because they are scared of their own mortality. They need a hope. Even if it is a false hope.

You better repent and seek for salvation my friend Jesus is coming soon! look up for Prophet Uwuor he is a very great and blessed prophet who preaches about salvation
Maybe some aliens created these books and gave them to us, so that we stay retarded forever. It maybe because they saw that we had something called brain and it was forbidden by laws of space to destroy any race. Doesn't matter how much evidence it produces, every religion is fucked up to some extent.
Religion and politics are touchy and people are really stubborn about their beliefs. You'll never get religious people to become atheist. I've done this a couple times (making arguments online) and its just as waste of times.
Your reasons are the most commonly held reasons by people who feel the same as you. Appreciate your cantor and being able to approach the topic respectfully : )

just another drone in the army of little youtube atheists created by the new world order. misinformed, half knowledgable kids, that try to rationalise their choices and resentment... .
I actually don't go on Youtube. Not for religious reasons, anyway. I grew up with religion shoved down my throat in my primary school and I doubted it from the start. Being from where I am, it doesn't take much to doubt. I made up my own mind because religion seemed to be a cut from the same cheese...
still. your resentment for your local religion doesn't mean spirituality and a God doesn't exist in the world. you are missing a lot. and heaven is not a magical place you go after death. heaven and hell begin from this life. its a condition of the heart.
Religious beliefs are just like political beliefs. No one really knows for sure, although some think that they know. Did you know that only 25% of Americans consider themselves "liberal?" In other words, 75% of people look at liberalism the same way you look at religion. For many reasons, they think it's bad/wrong/irrational.

If "nature sorts it's self out" as you say then there must be a balance. Lawlessness must be held in check. The average Joe Blow or not is irrelevant.
When lawless gets beside itself - there will be judgement. There will be a penalty.
There is such a thing as morals. Personal codes.
Not everyone wants death and destruction. Its the people in power with their own agendas that do.

There is only one reason anybody ever rejects God - because they are bad people and God does not want to reward them with afterlife in heaven.
So it's God's choice that I reject God, and I'm bad?
