How to Avoid Stunted Spiritual Growth - Bible Talk

1. Learn from Others

Viktor Frank was a Jewish Holocaust survivor who had the option of escaping the Holocaust and relocating to America prior to his imprisonment but decided to risk his life in the camps because he could not imagine abandoning his parents and not giving them a chance to be cared for and protected by him. Despite the 6 years of extreme hunger and torture, and the deep veins of insight he gained from it, he would still learn from jaded philosophers like Schopenhauer who had never experienced anything like what he had. A learning and growing mind believes everybody can teach him something, he focuses on learning from imperfect people and not from perfecting his tally of spiritual teachers.

2. Extend the frontiers of your spiritual knowledge.

I know a Christian who refuses to read non Christian books and he is one of the dumbest people I know because God created something bigger than the bible - he created the entire universe. Everything in creation whether human or animal or insect or plant or rock or Sky or land or water can teach you something about God of you have the eyes and ears to interpret it and analyze it. I know that I learn about God not only by reading the bible but also by reading Shakespeare or Gandhi or Anne Frank or Oprah. They might not all have access to the Christian view of Jesus but they all have access to wisdom and social knowledge and positive psychology and empathy and conscience. God is bigger than Christianity because Hindus and Muslims can also be merciful and loving so I would say to pursue knowledge and wisdom and not just worship and reverent behaviour.
