One of my favourite songs in university was higher love by Steve W. and I think one major difference between rich churches and poor churches is the emotions they entertain, lower emotional indulgences involve the pursuit of sympathy and personal praise, a pursuit that traps you in a cycle of dependency and poverty.
Higher emotional indulgences involve, esteem, honour, dignity, loyalty, humility, respect, confidence, awe, wonder, piety, reverence, and self-satisfaction, these things elevate you and bring you higher and in the end boost your intellectual and psychological capacity and mental skills. It also fosters healthy patterns of socialization and communication and secures your emotional foundations so that you can survive and conquer the issues effecting your life.
Having natural concern and empathy is also important, if you respect God, but not low status humans, you will be just as destitute and poor as those who respect people but not God.
