A deeper look into Hinduism and the reasons why I left it

To start with, I'm a 20 year old girl, born and raised in Delhi coming from a strict Conservative Hindu family. I wasn't too religious since my childhood and believed into whatever was told to me by my parents. It was only 2 years later when I was done with my 12th grade, I started looking into politics and society of my country and the growing religious extremism. Day and night people of other faiths are harassed, lynched to death for consuming beef even when India ranks top 5 in beef exportation, churches and mosques demolished, honor killings and many other conflicts led me to reading the scriptures of Hinduism myself. I know that good and bad people exist in every religion, and I don't want to insult anyone out of my ignorance that's why I won't be pointing out things done by people of any religions, directly the scriptures of what used to be my religion. I grew up having a negative thought of Muslims and Christians but I felt really disgusted when I read stuff in books of Hinduism myself.

This myTake isn't meant to insult any faith as I won't be adding my bias, I'm now an atheist

But,

My points will highlight the things DIRECTLY FROM THE SCRIPTURES without me adding my personal bias to it, so it's not against the religion, it's quoting exacting what's written. And I'm sure many of you won't be able to believe in what I will post so please, feel free to check them up online yourself, I have added references too!!

1. Mistreatment of people of Lower castes by the 'elite Brahmans'

2. Killing the infidels and ones who are blasphemous (they mock Muslims and Christians of doing it while it's written in the books of Hinduism itself)

I'll make another take covering other things up (child marriahw before puberty, Blatant misogyny, sonless parents not allowed in heaven, beastality with dead animals etc) as I wasn't allowed to upload more than 20 pictures. Let me know how you feel after reading it.

I really felt like letting people know the reality and what is in the scriptures. Many Hindus have been modernised and I'm really glad for it. I hope this wakes up eyes of others too. If you really don't believe what I quoted, you are free to look them up yourself!

Yeah, I always thought it was just a few hateful morons, and I never knew that the scriptures themselves taught a lot of this stuff.

I used to have a huge thing for Indian women, but recently I lost a lot of respect and attraction for them after I found out about some of the stupid shit they believe in. A lot of them are just as brainwashed as the men.

Even if she's educated and Westernized like you, I still feel her family would hate me. I understand now why Indian girls aren't mainstream like other women. The Indian religions are all stupid, and there are naiive people who feel obligated to follow the scriptures exactly.

Thank you for bringing this to the light, and don't take anything personally. Most religions are stupid to be honest, and I try to avoid people who are overly religious. But with the Abrahamic religions, you can at least find common themes, but polytheistic religions are completely different.

That's true. Recently I saw a bunch of Hindus flipped out because an Indian travel vlogger posted a picture of a mosque. They complained that she's spreading a false image of India and promoting Islam, even though she posted a picture of a Hindu temple too.
I told them, "Islam has been part of Indian society for centuries, live with it." Than of course they started attacking me.

India was always one of my biggest travel dreams when I was younger, and I was even gonna read the Bagavat ghita, but now after discovering their true nature, I want to stay as far away from India and Hinduism as possible.

I had a Hindu teacher from Nepal, and he basically said in front of the whole class that America deserved 9-11 for torturing Muslims.

I don't hate any religion or its believers. I believe God has given everyone the choice to decide what's right and what's wrong, and there will be a day when we will all be accountable for all our actions and choices. What I do hate (with a passion 😂) is Indians in general. I often say this (and have no shame in saying it) - I am proud of India, but ashamed of Indians. Hatred is imbibed into the minds of Indians. The fake "superiority", bad mouthing anyone we disagree with, harassing, cheating... feels like a second nature.

without going into it too far, most religions have this sort of test saying anyone of a different religion needs to be killed etc.

you have to read the books in context and extrapolate the good parts and understand why they state these things. for example in the bible it states not to eat shell fish, why, because it was too hard to transport and most people got sick eating it. had nothing to do with the animal. same with Muslim, not allowed to eat a clove hoofed animal.

look at the old testament in the bible, it was all blood guts and war, he wiped the earth clean at least 3 times lol, destroyed cities and nations, took away first born sons etc.

First of all, you don't know anything about Hinduism. You were born and raised in Delhi which is the heart of the cow belt. People from the cow belt don't know what Hinduism is. North Indians almost never have read any books apart from the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.
I am from Bengal and Hinduism is very different here. You can see the purest form of Hinduism here. That's why major religious figures from Hinduism are from Bengal, like Sree Chaitanya, Ramakrishna, and Vivekananda, Brahmo Samaj. All major Hindu charitable organizations are from Bengal, like Ramakrishna Mission, and ISKON and they have centers all over the world.
Bengalis abolished the north Indian inhuman tradition of burning girls alive or starting the marriage of widows and equal rights for girl children. Bengalis are not vegetarian like the rest of the Hindus and eating meat is permitted in Hinduism.
Growing up in Bengal you can never see a single case of castism or ill-treatment of people of another religion. We shared plates and ate together with people from all backgrounds in school colleges. Almost no one knows the term "dalit". We celebrate both eid and Christmas and go to church and pray to Jesus not only the Hindu gods.
So stop posting nonsense, it's not Hinduism that's problematic. It's the north Indian people who are giving a bad name to India and we have to explain it to foreigners.

@Guffrus many of the texts here are falsely explained for propaganda. Hinduism is 4000 years old and like all other old religions, it also has corruption. That's why Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism emerged from Hinduism and a lot of people left the old traditions.
A lot of pictures are here from Manusmriti. Which most actual Hindus hate. Vedas are the actual guidelines of Hinduism. One sage named Manu wrote some of the explanations of Vedas and it became the first Manusmriti then it actually got lost in time. Over the years hundreds of people from different areas of India wrote what they believed was written in manusmriti. So there are live 50-60 versions of it and they are self-contradictory.
Hinduism changed over the years, none of the actual Vedic gods gets worshipped anymore. Hindus worship idols that are not written in religion, even the pictures and idols of gods vary in different regions in India as per local ethnicity. Similar to what churches portray as Jesus, a tall white man with golden hair which is totally false.

Bengalis brought major changes to Hinduism inciting debates among intellectuals years ago. They stooped bad traditions across India by showing the true meanings of Hinduism and how north Indian people have corrupted it. With the help of the British government, they enforced modern laws.
It's similar to Christianity. Jesus never wrote the bible. In the middle ages, Christians were barbaric. Redhead girls were burnt alive in the name of religion and belief. Protestants and Eastern orthodox people also don't follow foolish catholic traditions.

Which shloka in Manu Smriti says that the low caste was soo badly treated? It seems to me that the Manu Smriti that has come down to us is heavily corrupted. For example, Manu Smriti 2.238 advises everyone to learn from a learned Shudra. If Shudras were denied education then where can we get a learned Shudra. Another peculiar shloka is 8.104 where Manu Smriti asks a witness to lie in order to save a Shudra’s life. This shloka is peculiar because Manu Smriti is not so kind to Shudras in other places. I do not think one can answer your question with the current version of Manu Smriti.

Bhurisravasa belonging to the caste of pot makers was the president of a sacrifice performed by sages (Refer Bhagavatam). The actual meaning of untouchability is forgotten. A very bad student is expelled from school for a change in him. Similarly very bad people were expelled from the village, expecting a change in them. This is the actual sense of untouchability.
It belongs to an individual. The son need not be untouchable. The son of Hiranya Kasipu (demon) Prahlada, need not be a demon. Prahlada was very pious. Datta came in the form of untouchable and preached Sankara, and Sankara fell on the feet of Datta, which proves that an individual is not untouchable.

Because the balance of probability strongly suggests to me that the modern version will be an interpretation which is tailored to be acceptable to a modern ear.

I've never studied Hinduism.
I thought the class stuff was cultural, not religious based.

The term 'Hindu' was originally an ethno geographic term. The culture, the faiths and the tradutuons came to be Hinduism and is today presented as a formalised religion.
The books I quoted texts from are the religious scriptures of Hinduism.
