The sky is blue and the heaven realm is also imagined as having a lot of blue in it, therefor the color is seen as beautiful and the gods are described as blue. Many hindu gods are supposed to look beautiful and be associated with something positive. In addition Shiva drank some poison, so his neck turned blue.

Not always, some of their gods have black, purple or gold skin color.

Anyway, why are they mostly blue? I presume it's because they were real - a race of blue skinned aliens who visited the Earth, thousands of years ago.

I don't know if they are ALWAYS blue skin - but maybe blue is a sacred colour in Hinduism. I took a couple classes on Indian faiths in University but I don't remember some of the things I learned.

    www.hindu-blog.com/.../...lue-color-why-hindu.html

In Hinduism, Gods like Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, Lord Ram and Lord Shiva are shown as having blue or dusky skin. The color of the skin is shown as either blue or sometimes black. Hindu religion is full of symbolisms and the blue color is also a symbol. Most avatars of Hindu gods are also shown in blue color.

Blue is the color of the infinite. All Hindu gods are an attempt by the human mind to give form to the formless Brahman (God). The color blue symbolizes immeasurable and all pervading reality – formless Brahman.

    www.quora.com/Why-and-since-when-are-Indian-gods-depicted-in-blue-color-in-paintings
An interesting answer to this question can be found in one of the quotes of Swami Vivekananda, "The God of Infinite Love and the object of Love sublime and infinite are painted blue. Krishna is painted blue, so also Solomon's. It is a natural law that anything sublime and infinite is associated with blue colour. Take a handful of water, it is absolutely colourless. But look at the deep wide ocean; it is as blue as anything. Examine the space near you; it is colourless. But look at the infinite expanse of the sky; it is blue."

In other words, whatever is limitless is conveniently granted the color blue as this color is attached to our perception of infinity.

Krishna is not referred as "blue" . In marathi, it is referred as " savala" which means "dark"
