I'd immediately contact the most religious people I know then sit back and enjoy the shitshow
Probably this exact thing.

It belongs there but people thinking that’s a bad thing don’t understand the deeper meanings to the myths themselves. Mythology is also about the quest for self betterment and just another way of metaphorically describing our relationships with each other and with death and various phenomena.
so true.
Like take Odin and Fenris for example. Odin translates to mind/spirit and Fenris to greed, so in Ragnarok greed devours spirit and is defeated by his son open mind (Vidar).
Oh shoot. Well I don't wanna get a book here if I don't know whether they even put it in the right section or not. I better find another store.
They can believe whatever they want, but when it comes to a bookstore selling a book with well-known significance I would expect they put it in an appropriate section.
1) people will have a harder time finding it if you move it to a new place in your store, 2) you know a significant portion of the market for that book won't like it being moved there, so you'll likely lose business from it, and 3) if you're not really trying to sell that book (1,2) then why do you even have it?
If they're trying to make a statement about their religious beliefs, okay. At least that is a reason to do it that explains it. I may still shop there if it's just a statement of their own beliefs and not an attack on other beliefs. I just don't think that's very likely to be case.
That would be very sad to see. But I wouldn't take it as far as talking to the manager. I would just not buy anything from the store and never shop there again.
I wouldn't feel like management would take that complaint seriously because it's becoming more and more acceptable to give less respect to religion. Such as schools not being allowed to pray and atheism being more prevalent. And things like homosexuality and abortion are being praised and encouraged.
Perfectly fine for the first part.
Religion doesn't belong in schools. It's that while separation of church and state thing and if it is a publicly funded school then they should be allowed a quiet moment of reflection to do what they want in private regardless of religion or nothing at all.
There is nothing wrong with atheism or homosexuality. Keeping religion out of it for a moment because again, that doesn't belong in schools, if you are allowed to be heterosexual and openly celebrate your relationships in school then I have every right to do the same.
Abortion is up to the individual. You don't agree with it? Don't get one.
I personally don't agree with it so ill never get one. I'll never push my personal beliefs on that matter to enforce others who don't share your religious beliefs to be oppressed by those who do share them though.
@Flower7 I agree with you on the part that people should respect religion and not mock it. That's an extremely disrespectful thing to do. I wouldn't want someone to laugh at me bc of my religion. But there's nothing wrong with homosexuality. Those people find it hard to be accepted by other people. There are even homophobes here on the site which is disgusting. Those people don't choose who they're attracted to and it's really not their fault. They're human like us and have feelings too
@Cherry234 Very well said. I myself am agnostic, but started as Presbyterian. As I found less and less acceptance for who I was attracted to and loved, I found accepting to be found less and less despite the fact her and I have been together for just about 20 years now.
I find it frustrating that I am being told I'm condemned to hell by the same people who welcome those who have been divorced or been unfaithful to their partner which is supposedly just as bad. It frustrates me that some use their religion as a sword and shield rather than an instrument of love and acceptance.
I dont begrudge anyone their religion, but I just ask they don't force it on anyone and force them to live by laws they don't agree with. We know that if other religions came in and forced this Christian based faiths to laws like wearing a strainer on their head (sorry pastafarians for being the scapegoat here) they would be just as upset.
@Ez-Bri-Z It really is a shame that people can be so bigoted. I'm not just disgusted by homophobes. I'm also disgusted by transphobes, racists, sexist people, etc. Really anyone with any type of bigotry. I also agree with you that people shouldn't force their religions on other people. I'm accepting of people who are atheists or aren't Catholic or Christian so I expect them to respect what I believe in too
@Cherry234 I agree. It seems much more time consuming and frustrating to hold hate in your heart than to just let people be or better yet, fill it with love for others so that you feel better yourself.
Your/yourself being in the general terms, not specifically you lol
The Holy Bible sold in the mythology section? That's very offensive to people who believe in God and Jesus. I know not every one is religious but people got to respect different religions. Dude that's not cool...
are you religious?
i used t be myself. i was pretty devout too in high school
I think it's dependent on whether the bookstore has a religion section. Because myths can be religion for some people (a very minute amount of people), I think that with reasonable explanation, it would be understandable. Now I am agnostic and I've been very wary of the Bible, but I don't think disregarding someones beliefs is the way to handle your disbelief.
I'd find it typical and not bother doing business with them. They're entitled to their opinion and I'm entitled to spend my money somewhere else. I'm not a Muslim or Jew either. Still wouldn't put their books in that category.
@Cherry234 i agree but I just won't give them the satisfaction because i know they're looking for that. It's clearly an attempt to insult/troll the faithful and I just won't entertain it. I'm better than that and quite frankly if they're pulling these stunts they're beneath my ire.
@Cherry234 somehow i think in a deep blue state it would happen. Its just a fact that a faction within the left just doesn't want to tolerate anything that doesn't conform to their hardcore ideology. I'm not a leftist, dont hate on people who are. But i dont like the ones with zero tolerance for others. that goes for the right too. People just need to chill tf out and live their goddamn lives.
I would be shocked and I probably wouldn't take the book store seriously. I'm Agnostic so I don't read the Bible. I believe in respecting people's religion so I can see that a religious person would find this offensive.
@Cherry234 Yes, I try to.
I laugh, I also laugh when they're in the history section. Grab em and put em back where they belong with a little pat pat.
poor baby bible awww
Just shake my head and move on. Not worth the energy to get worked up on. Maybe it was malicious, maybe it was done as a joke to troll other, either way, why feed into it?
If they're combining their religion and mythology sections or they don't have a religion section it makes sense. If they do have a religious books section it would be kinda odd
"A body or collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their origin, history, deities, ancestors, and heroes."
I MEAN THAT KIND OF DESCRIBES THE BIBLE doesn't IT (TwT)
I guess it would seem offensive, just not to me! I’m Jewish, and I’m non-practicing at that!
@t-8900 I’m Jewish on my mother side. We’re German, and someone in every generation has the blonde hair. I was raised with observance of both Christian and Jewish faiths, more or less. We would sometimes attend Temple, sometimes Church. I was actually leaning more to the Christian side,, but I had a very bad experience with the church we attended when i was 13 so I just thought fuck it, I’m DONE! Any documents where I’m required to identify my religion, I’m Jewish.
@t-8900 Yeah I wasn’t really feeling the Bible study stuff, I didn’t really want to make a voice, but it was a pain in the ass for my parents, doing two holidays, and I’m sure my mom just wanted me to have my Bat Mitzvah anyway. So after a year of almost no Temple, all my friends went to church, I just went along to get along. Plus Christmas was more fun!
The jewish religion is all myths. Even today. All their current beliefs.
Just Jewish? What about the other religions?
I may think in mind that it's wrong to be put there, but everyone has their own opinions. So, I'd probably see that and take my business elsewhere.
I would laugh, but I accidentally hit I'd buy one, sorry I fucked your poll up, I'm tired 😂
I would be offended and then politely tell management it looks wrong.
I know what I'm doing on my next visit to Barnes & Noble.
That would be the correct place to put it factually.
I wouldn't mind. I know for plenty enough people it is mythology.
I also have enough assurance in my faith that I don't need to flip out.
I be more like wait that dosent make sense. It's not factional but it might needs it own shelf or in a better spot.
I'd kick off if it wasn't joined by other holy books
Laugh. I mean they ain't wrong that it's technically mythology in a way
As wrong as that would be, I have to say that I really wouldn't be surprised.
This is the horrible direction we're going in this nation
Well I’m not missing an opportunity to take a picture of that. The bookstore got balls of steel.
The Bible is called Christian mythology in an academic setting.
I wonder how many of these comments would react negatively or differently if it was the Quran..
Sounds about right. Next to the Greek, Roman, & Egyptian Gods.
Send a pic to my religious parent to piss them off.
Take a picture and send it to Ellen.
lol would she like that?
She used to show weird stuff in a segment. Odd signs, advertisements, etc. I cut cable and haven’t watched for couple years. I was just trying to give an answer from a different angle. lol
It would make me wonder
you wouldn't be offended?
@Still-alive Yeah some what
you a religious person?
@Still-alive I would say a little bit not much
@Cherry234 Yes, I would be offended I love my Lord
Me in a book store, pretending that I can read 🤓
I laughed when I read this so yeah I'd laugh
It's about time is what I'd be thinking
All religion is mythology. Seems right.
I would be indifferent.
F
It belongs in mythology section.
I don't think I would notice.
I would laugh
