They get money punishment or jail time for not practicing religion instead? For other islamic sins, there are violence punishments too such as 2 unmarried people being with each other.

If a married man or woman cheats with somebody, the punishment is then killing (honor killing)

If a muslim changed his religion or became an atheist, the punishment is killing.

1. These harshest punishments weren't carried all the time..
For instance.. when two people who aren't married to each other had s**. If there were 4 eye witnesses that could give testimony only then they would carry out the punishment. And remember if one of them gave a little different testimony all four of them would get punished.
