No, it's impossible... Because if you look on YouTube at people who suffer a blow to the head and get brain damages... You will notice the before and after... They are completely different people...
So if your soul/ personality was bound to your body and not your brain... You would be the same person no matter how damaged your brain gets, especially if you can live without one as a ghost.

So if a mere whack to the head makes you less intelligent... Then surely a full blown destruction of the brain will leave you with no intelligence at all and not able to have a single thought or be conscious... So how would a ghost exist without a brain?

Ghosts are the same as spirits. Only difference: spirit is what is said to enter your body, ghost is what leaves. It etymologically comes from spiritus and means air. And that's all it is. Air. Just way back in the day people didn't understand how air interacts with our body, so they made up myths around it, which they always did when they didn't understand something. That's how gods were made up too.

I believe in a demonic world but not in a Halloween ghost. Demonic entities are much more likely to appear as “light” than evil on the front end.
For sure, there is a greater and unseen spiritual struggle in our midst.
