Should a church get political?

I hear that politics should not get involved with religion but should religion get involved with politics? Should a pastor discuss or encourage a political side?

This an age old Q. Many religious leaders worldwide throughout have fronted 'holy wars'. The Crusades. The Inquistion. Salem Witch Trials. Hijjad. Arguably, more people have died as a result of religions getting political than ALL wars fought!

So my response is Religion has NO business in Politics! Just like Government has NO business in Religion!

I think it's okay for them to dabble in political issues from time to time. But they shouldn't get obsessed over it.

Also, they can't tell people to vote for any particular candidate or any particular political party. (But that part is the law, as you know, of course.)

I find most pastors support the wrong candidates and causes cause they are more concerned with their cultural bias than they are with social inclusivity and protecting the vulnerable. I never supported the same candidates as my Baptist pastors or church goers.

Neither side should get involved.. see England in the earlier years as an example of what happens when church and state mix. I don’t think a pastor should influence the congregation about political matters. More so to show them parallels of spiritual doctrine that may help resolve moral dilemmas caused by such agenda.

This really does depend on the subject. On moral things like abortion I think yea... Things that don't effect salvation then no I don't really feel they should preach that.

But there are plenty that do one way or the other. If they are sharing something that is just their opinion then they need to state that and not dwell too much on that kind of stuff.

No church, in the wide significance of the word, whatever tendency, should ever get political, lest all horrors commited by idiotic fanatics in the name of some lord would prevail in daily life. Religious feelings should remain private.

A church should take their stand on their faith. If it's political and backed by their scripture then that's fair and legal.

A pastor ought to be free to address issues relating to faith and morals. One political party taking a stronger stance on one than the other, or two competing parties taking opposite views doesn't necessarily make the issues political.
