A pastor I watched on YouTube says the counterfeit comes before the real thing, thoughts?

How does one discern between the two if you don’t have a baseline? But I get his point, the imposters will try to beat out the genuine ones. First one in line at the soup kitchen may be the last one who needs food. But it requires good judgement in any case.

That is only from an individual person's perspective. If you want to see if someone is counterfeit just be as real and truthful with them as you can be and see how far it goes. If anything/anyone is counterfeit, they will show themselves up eventually.

I don't know... I mean if you approach everything like the first thing is fake then you are assuming they are not being forthright or completely honest with you.

In my experience I always am honest upfront... and insecure people always assume I am hiding something, get inside their own heads and then screw it. So never assume anything until you have reason not to.

Just look at the word... what does it mean? It's a fake... of the real thing... that's not the question your asking... and as far as spiritually thinking can you achieve the real thing, your answering your on question... but realistically no one is the same so there is no connection or conformity to the answer everyones life is different... some the real thing happens first some never some later... its impossible to think of a correct answer without knowing the actual circumstances or events to understand if your reaching a conclusion... is this the first preacher who said that? Maybe he's counterfeit by conclusion of his statement and your turn of events... and yes I'm religious just there are a lot of people who just want to say something...

I might add that's a pretty bad way to look at the world... your first best friend... your first love... your first paycheck... your first existence... your first religion... your first anything is a learning experience to say it's fake is kind of a scary way to look at it... your parents... their first marriage? I mean I would read and learn but be careful where from, ideas like that might make you reject happiness because it's the first... and by definition counterfeit means copy of what the first real and who say counterfeit means bad? It means fake but not necessarily in the meaning of bad... a counterfeit bag? Quality as real as the real thing just not the same brand... what's real in this world is in your heart and soul.. and there's no first second or after about that... think about it... this is his job he/she has to make you think but that's a closed way to think if you follow the meaning to the latter... real is first counterfeit means copy by logic it's a false statement and ideology
