Why is compassion so absent from the world?

My friends from church go out of their way to befriend disabled and mentally ill people because they are philanthropists but when I hear the media, it seems needy people never get compassion from the world, they only get used and taken advantage of.

God love your friends. Mentally ill people take LOT of patience. The bad thing about the mentally ill is, yeah they may take pills to Regulate them. But it's not a cure all! It's not full proof. It has to be adjusted and whatnot. This makes them a burden on others and it's hard to understand that it's not thier fault when they're lucid one day and sort of (excuse the term) off the reservation the next.

I can speak from experience that my sister went into a medically induced coma (about 5 years. Before her death). When she came out of the coma she had experienced some brain damage. But she seemed so much like herself to begin with. But months later started developing bouts of paranoia. She would accuse her husband of cutting her hair while she slept. Accusing him of cheating. And trust me he was very loyal to her. My other siblings and I have even talked after she passed away that she would not have liked the person she became in those final years. But that's the point. We loved her but her outbursts would wear on anybody after a while. Because you couldn't reason with her. Because she was not fully in control.

Again I have MUCH respect for anyone who take time to care for the mentally ill.

Unfortunately it's just the way of the world. Time and people's lives March on. And the sick are just expected to keep up. Or get left behind by society. Because the prevailing attitude is "we have safety nets" to care for them. Of course of which are always underfunded. And managed by insurance which will ALWAYS be ran like a business. And unfortunately the sick can't advocate for themselves so it'll be whoever will stand up to do it.

Because narcissism and self gratification are more present then ever in our world that is now only consisting of material fulfillment instead of mental happiness and helping those around you.

Cause God said in the last days the hearts of many would turn cold and that many people will become selfish and think only of themselves.

Many reasons. But largely, it's because of unchecked selfishness and a lack of empathy.

Because the media teach them to hate human and disappoint the current world, people start to learn to take benefits and abuse it for their personal life instead of trying to speak, fix and fight against it.
