+1 yIt is said: "There are None so blind as Those who CHOOSE not to 'see'..."
'Real' is ultimately a subjective perception.
Clearly... foremost, at least two Sentiences must perceive 'something' to some similar characteristics, for it to OBJECTIVELY be 'real' as in 'reality'. If it doesn't...TO YOU
Take the phenomena of 'Gravity' for example. It will STILL affect your physical self independent of YOUR belief.
So... if there is NO pre-existant Sentience, who therefore perpetually imbues 'gravity' ?
Since 'gravity' independently acts upon all known sentient life forms, it DOES 'objectively' exist. And...
since the phenomena of 'entropy' consumes the energy to perpetuate perceivable phenomena, Gravity and Inertia for example. SOME energetic Sentience DOES ongoingly 'enforce' that which 'reality' manifests as 'Physics' to a repetitious insightful fashion.
13 Reply- +1 y
@Echosoul The 'measure' of the force of gravity is 'subjective';
in personal observation comparison of someone's ARBITRARY life experience and calibration to an earlier life experience.
Even when demonstrating THAT experience to another person, we seek to 'normalize' all the other variable sensory perceptions to TRY to achieve consensus among those, who are 'subjectively' sharing the measuring variables. For example, take the perception of the color 'red'... OBJECTIVELY it occupies 'x' to 'x2' angstroms on the visual spectrum BUT... NEITHER you nor myself CONCRETELY KNOWS what each other ACTUALLY perceives; but JUST that by convention... in order to communicate, we arbitrarily CHOOSE to agree to term it to be colored 'red'.
In AFFECT, there is NO 'objective' reality... only arbitrary SHARED 'subjective' experience among multiple Sentiences... whom AGREE that they each perceived SOMETHING under shared circumstance~ Kinda the 'Doubting Thomas' principle: "You REALLY hadda 'BEEN there'; and seen (experienced) it to... and for yourself"

I mean, there's not a shred of evidence for one. The Bible sure ain't proof of anything.
If a person does a bit of research, they'll realize that the Bible contains few facts and lots of contradictions. The Torah and Talmud were written down by exiled Judean rabbis about 500 bc. It is not the word of any god, it was actually the invention of Satanism.
The stories about Jesus are tweaked beyond credibility, too. Biblical scholars agree.

Where I live, the crocus flowers bloom first in the spring.

Next come the daffodils

Next are the tulips. It's always in that order. How do they know what to do? Most people can't even figure out how to properly push their shopping carts in a grocery store. if you believe in the christian god, you still don’t believe in zeus, horus, the muslim deity, the many gods the aboriginals believe in, or any other god.
believing that only YOUR god is the real god is insane. The likelihood that YOUR god is the only real one and all the other endless gods are not is narcissistic as hell.
it is much more likely that no god is real.
The idea of a god is generally injected to explain something people don’t understand or are uncomfortable with, like death.
people used to believe in a god of night and a god of day, then we discovered how the planets work so we didn’t need that “god” anymore.
believing in a magical creature above space and time, that created everything from the beginning of time to the end of time, and is omnipotent, that listens to the thoughts of one group of living organisms on a spec of dirt among an infinite sea of other specs if dirt and cares what those life forms do and think, and grants their “wishes” which in-turn would defeat the entire omnipotent idea… is quite insane.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yNot a valid question.
The correct way to structure it is to say 'Why do people believe in a God / Gods?'
The burden of proof lies with the claimant, that is the theist.
The default position for everything is non belief.
Everything must be proven with evidence and there is no evidence supporting any of the claims made by theists.

Opinion Owner+1 y@Bananas83 A swing and a miss.
Opinion Owner+1 y@bananas83 I am evidence that humans exist, there is no proof of a supernatural to be found here.
- +1 y
Okay, but human beings were created. Again they didn't just appear. God created them. And if you look at your own body and how well it's developed, there's no other explanation other than God. Your brain, your heart beats on its own, your blood and how it travels, the way your eyes work, how if you cut yourself you body heals. The human body is the most advanced machine on this planet. Only God can creat something so intricate
- +1 y
You are blind (both literally and figuratively) if you claim that “there is no evidence supporting any of the claims made by theists.” I’m not going to give any examples because you would simply argue and argue some more. Your walls are already up (prematurely, I might add.)
I used to want “proof” as well. It took me a long time to realize that I was getting in my own way and that I had closed myself off to anything that didn’t agree with my ignorant/close-minded views. As they say, ignorance is bliss.
by the way, if the default position for everything is non-belief, then why should we believe what YOU say? Go ahead and respond if you want. Or don’t. Doesn’t make any difference at all to me. I might read your response, I might not. G’day.
Opinion Owner+1 y@cassie88 Making the statement that there are no Gods in a literal sense rather than in the more casual sense of rejecting the claims made by theists as it is MUCH more commonly used would indeed require evidence and no such evidence exists. It is certainly worth pointing out however that it is not possible to prove a negative because the thing doesn't exist it leaves no trail to follow.
So atheism is not claiming that there are no Gods, it is merely dismissing the baseless claims of theists and yes atheism IS the default position, as it (non belief) is with all things. Do not get confused just because there is a term describing non belief with regard to religion.
Your second post is much more interesting than your first and there are many concepts in it which are central to this whole thing so I am going to unpack all of this for you.
Can I prove to you that I exist?
In absolute terms? No, none of us can do that. None of us can ever truly know if anything that we are experiencing is real or not. A sufficiently advanced computer and the correct wiring to our brains could simulate anything and present it to us as fact and we would have no way to defeat the illusion.
So as a sentient being this is your first major choice that you are going to have to make; Am I going to accept what appears to be real as real and conduct myself in line with the idea that it is real?
You could perhaps bundle this idea in with the first but some people (who are considered to be mad) make the choice or at least live the outcome that the other people who appear to be real are infact not real. So that is your second choice.
Opinion Owner+1 yMost people choose to accept that what appears to be real is real and that other people are also real, the reason for this whether you consciously understand this or not is very simple, you cannot leave the confines of your own mind and share anything with any one else unless you do this (in a meaningful way, it would be a fantasy only and you would view it as such).
Fantasies can be very consuming and enjoyable and you can even share them with other people, this is what theists are doing, they are sharing a delusion, but it is not only theists who do this, people enjoy stories, books, films and in the modern world even interactive multiplayer virtual worlds etc.
Some of those stories even explore the idea of giving up reality in favour of a blissful fantasy.
So if we dont need reality to interact with others, why is it important?
It becomes important when you try to affect the world, without developing tools of thought and ways of determining reality from fantasy we would not have been able to develop the technology that we have.
Humans are extremely bad at perceiving reality and out of the box we are not inheriently much more capable than any of the other animals that you see in nature, we a little smarter than most and we have opposable thumbs which is helpful but that is not why we dominate the planet, we are top species because of the extremely powerful effect of our technology, sharing knowledge and learning and building from the work of past humans.
The most important shared knowledge are the ideas which allow us to explore and learn about reality, writing, the scientific method, logic etc. Our technology and understanding has advanced MUCH more rapidly in recent times as a direct result of freeing ourselves from the ignorance of religious dogma and leveraging the advantages of having a real understanding of the world, ideas supported by evidence.
Opinion Owner+1 y@cassie88
So this brings us back to 'Everything has to be proven'.
Everything must be proven because we have no other way of determining reality from fantasy.
This is why the default position, for everything, is non belief. It does not matter what the subject is.
Testimony could be enough to start an investigation but it is not enough to conclude an investigation.
Quote: Can you prove to me that you even exist, and are not a bot?
Yes, I could prove that. You could observe me in real time via a video link, or we could meet in real life, I could be examined by a doctor etc, there are many ways and different types and levels of proof that could be provided to support the claim that I am real, to the extent that any of us are real and that I am not a bot.
Being a bot by the way, doesn't actually affect the argument, if I were a bot I would still be correct because my argument is what matters not that I said it.
No one has the authority to define reality on the strength of their word alone.
Don't take my word for anything of the things that I have said, go and do your own research, go and learn for yourself and check to see if I have accurately conveyed the ideas and principles which have been developed by other people.
You should not be taking anyones word for anything.
Evidence is required for everything.
Opinion Owner+1 y@all_hayl Apparently you don't even know what literally means.
Or you have a strang prejudice against the blind.
In either case you can go fuck yourself you ignorant bigoted piece of shit.- +1 y
@Bananas83 No one claim that humans just appeared. They they didn't doesn't automatically mean that your favorite deity happen to be the reason. Nor does proclaimed complexity automatically lead to your favorite deity. You have to demonstrate such a claim. Right now you have just assumed it.
- +1 y
“ In either case you can go fuck yourself you ignorant bigoted piece of shit.”
It’s unfortunate that you’re so easily angered and triggered. Part of the problem with being blind to the truth is that you can’t see it even when people point out it to you and/or when it’s staring you in the face. NEways, I have zero interest in interaction with people who have to resort to insults/name calling, so I’m moving on. Go ahead and respond if you want. I won’t see or read it. Peace.
Because humans are so stupid, they couldn't possibly keep track of an all-knowing, all-seeing Creator of All and keep its story accurate for over a thousand years. The majority of humans are and always will be stupid, so I doubt their claims that their creator god is "accurate." I'm not even saying a higher power doesn't exist - I'm agnostic - but I doubt humanity in its infinite idiocy, has any idea what that higher power is, if any. And yes, this is me being positive on the matter.

+1 yThere's a lot of human depravity associated with religion, the books are very hard to read, with some wild stories or sad reality. A lot of it, is hard to stomach. Some big egos fall into the pit of "doom", lost. I had a bad reaction early on watching TV evangelists.
As well, difficult circumstances in life make it hard to understand "God". Especially... if there is a god, how could they do "this" or allow "this". Also, what happens to people I loved who weren't of the given faith... and thus lost forever. Hard to make sense of love, and loss, separation.
They don't like to see the human division between religions, so they choose none.
Running into difficult problems, they conclude God is not real or dead.

00 Reply - It's an extraordinary claim
- So far there is zero evidence. All we have is old texts and people's claims, neither of which are reliable
- The parameters of such deities are so vaguely defined that any fictional entity could be substituted. Exists everywhere, invisible to all measures etc is convenient
- People have believed in numerous deities throughout the centuries. These are no more valid (Zeus etc)
- People pray for help with disease etc and it never comes. Numerous horrific things are allowed to happen indicating this being doesn't exist, lacks power, or doesn't care.

I mean in a way you can't see the air you breath but it's there! That's like God, just cause you can't see him doesn't mean he doesn't exist. The scriptures are being played out right now in the book of revelation. People are becoming lovers of money, lovers of self, people are becoming more and more disrespectful towards authority etc.
- +1 y
@Bananas83 Actually we can both see air and measure it. That's a really bad claim.
- +1 y
You can't see gravity, but it's there. There's proof in the world that Jesus walked the earth. Look into it. Look at places like Sodom and Gomorrah and how they were destroyed. It matches up with the bible. The world doesn't revolve around the US or other countries. Thr world revolves around the time line of Israel.
Do you believe Zeus is a real God? If not, why not?
It is impossible to prove/disprove existence of a proposed entity called by humans "God", because its existence would be so much different that ours. God needs to move beyond our dimensions. We might speculate about it, but will never be able to describe it, since we lack cognitive apparatus and we are limited by the laws of physics.
30 Reply2 Peter 3:3-6, Modern English Version
"3 Know this first, that there shall come scoffers in the last days who walk after their own lusts, 4 and say, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were since the beginning of the creation.” 5 For they willingly ignore that, by the word of God the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed standing out of the water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed was flooded with water and perished."Note: scoffers and willingly ignore, willingly... it's a choice based on motivation.

Every last one of those 40,000 religions claims that theirs is correct and the others are all lies.
It doesn’t take being a super genius to realize that none of them are correct.20 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yLots of reasons. This is why whenever I talk about my faith to people who say they're agnostics or some atheists (some for good reason) I always like to say "I don't KNOW anything more than you. The only thing that has changed since I found Jesus is now I have faith" and faith fluctuates. When I was a "non believer" I always took Christians as arrogant and it and the cross was offensive to me. I remember cursing God when my father passed away. Now I draw strength from it. And I don't want to beat anyone over the head with a Bible. I just want them to feel the same joy and peace that it brings me. But I only if they're ready and willing to hear it.
10 ReplyBecause it just doesn't make sense and hasn't been proven to be true. I was told that God would always be with me and wouldn't let anything bad happen to me during hardships. Covid happened and my faith was already hanging by a thread. I became lonely and depressed that almost drove me to suicide. Where the hell was "God" when I went through that? Then some other shit with the church. I eventually lost faith in christianity
21 ReplyThe Bible actually addresses this - off the top of my head in Romans and the latter part of 1 Corinthians 2. If course, atheists will not care because they don’t believe the Bible to be true in the first place. That’s between them and the God that they don’t believe in.

+1 yThe canonical gospels are highly contestable ancient literature. Half of Paul's letters are not even considered to be written by Paul himself according to scholars. Having said that, I'm a Christian today. I fought and battled with doubt my entire life though. To blindly follow is a shallow base.
03 Reply- +1 y
I would say if you doubt then you are not inhabited by the Holy Spirit. If you don't have the Spirit then you are not saved. He is given to every believer when they are saved, and he never deserts or forsakes you. The Holy Spirit will not make you do anything. If you think he has forsaken you, it is because you were the one who moved, not him.
- +1 y
Threatening salvation when someone wants to have faith, but is struggling to achieve it is extremely toxic in the church. Most Christians I've known have doubts at time. It's healthy. As long as it brings you closer to the texts and causes you to dive deeper.
- +1 y
It's not hard to achieve. But most people are too busy living in this world and think only of their pleasures. God is an afterthought to them. No one is willing to give up their pleasures which are mostly sins. Repenting is farthest on their minds as they are having too much fun.
+1 yA young man named Bryce told me, "Kanye West says we all need to put God back in our lives". I told him, "Instead of putting God in our lives we need to put love in our hearts. To invoke the name of God is an intellectual endeavor. Jesus says 'Lean not on your idea of God but instead lean on your hearts".
In the teachings of Gurumayi Chidvilasanda she says, "Do not look outside of you in this world of maya for love; you will never find it. Instead, take this love that's inside of you out & share it with the whole world".
