Eh, maybe. From a theological viewpoint, it doesn't make much sense- sin requires moral agency, and you don't have that when someone else is controlling your actions, so what exactly would the purpose be? What benefit could you get from it that you couldn't get from whispering in someone's ear, and slowly corrupting them? If you're doing it for subtler reasons, why do so in a way that immediately draws attention to you and your actions?

Historically, of course, it was primarily a way to explain away mental illness, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Yes, I know it's real and I've seen and heard of it, I've been through enough spiritual warfare to know that it exists, there's influences and possessions, possessions are usually for the spiritually weak, that lack the protection of God, it's when a demon takes control of someone, my guess would be that they influence your mind so much they have so much control over the person, a good example of how they can get to people are through pornography (demon of lust) demons of homosexuality, there's demons of anger, demons of depression, demons of suicide, demons of mocking, don't get me wrong if anyone is reading this, some of these are emotions but the possession brings an excessive amounts of this into your life that will eventually depart you from God and destroy you in the process, leaving you with emptiness and no connection to God that when your time runs out, you are completely departed from him.

Since in my country some religious nutters perform exorcisms, I suppose they think some people are possessed by devil. Fortunately nobody demands those shows should be paid by healthcare insurance.

Literally every single instance of possession can be explained by mental illness. Every single one. The fact that people still believe in it baffles me. There is no scientific evidence to support it, at all.
