Do you think God can help me change my heart?

I have a cold heart. Because I was abused as a kid emotionally and psychologically and bit physical. Maybe thats why Im cold towards other people too because thats how I was raised. Im like I feel like no one loves me so Im cold and rude to other people. But I really want to change my heart and leave my old ways like I want to be nice and empathethic and I want to feel love cuz I never felt love since I was a kid. I want to change. Like I prayed today to God do you think God can help me. Do you think God can change it?

He most certainly can, but you need to do your part as well, which you seem very willing to do. Or so at least I would hope.

For one thing, you need to pray and meditate often. It needs to be a regular part of your daily routine. And you need to put what you pray about into practice. You'll also need to be patient, mostly with yourself. You won't undo an entire way of thinking about yourself and others in just a few days and with just a few prayers.

You'll also need help, and I don't mean someone you pay to listen to you. You need someone to love you and keep you accountable. On that note, I don't know what your actual religious beliefs are, but If I may, I'll recommend a few saints that you would do well to familiarize yourself with (I am a Catholic).

1) Saint Jerome. He spent about twenty years translating what we know today as the Bible into Latin. He was a very intelligent, skilled, and scholarly man, but he was also kind of a jerk. He was so harsh, abrasive, and impatient with people that he would sometimes hit himself with a rock as both a punishment and a motivation to be nicer to people!

2) Saint Therese of Lisieux, also known as the "Little Flower". She was a bit of a mixed bag. If you read her writings, she seems very sweet and gentle, but allegedly also had a very choleric temperament. As she was dying of tuberculosis, according to one homily I heard many years ago, she was incredibly difficult towards other members of her convent. Even then, she was still sharply and sternly corrected on her behavior.

The last one I'll give you for now, and perhaps the most relevant to you, is Saint Germaine Cousin. She's basically Cinderella. That is, of course, except for fairy godmothers, glass slippers, and Prince Charming. Her mother died after giving birth and her father remarried, this time to a Lady Tremaine-type. You should read more about her on New Advent. Her story is quite inspiring.

Yes, especially if you make an effort to change. Go out and try to do one kind thing every day. Try volunteering to help the poor or for some good cause. Greet customer service people with a smile and be kind to them even though you don’t have to. It can become natural to you.
