Dating a baptist when you’re agnostic?

Ok so is this feasible? My boyfriend is a devout baptist and I’m agnostic with a bit of Buddhism. So far we’ve been pretty ok with our belief differences but he’s very into the idea of believer go to heaven non believers go to hell. Will become a problem in the future?

I would say that it will become a problem in the future. I'm basing this off of my own personal experience so he could be different, but the people of faith I've interacted with have always had this long term goal to "change" me instead of just accepting me. It also gets complicated as time goes on. If you have kids he may be adamant about them adopting his religion. If his family is also religious they may look down on you or try to ice you out or convince him it's not worth it. Again it's all speculative but these are issues that are more likely than not to come up in the future.

I'm an agnostic atheist and I wouldn't, because I just don't get how anyone can believe those old myths.
I think it is likely to become a problem in the future. If he sincerely believes that you and other skeptics are damned, he will feel a duty to continuously try to convert you.

Does he accept that you will never be a Christian? What is your goal in dating him or anyone? Do you want children? If you do, would you be comfortable having them attend Baptist catechism (Sunday School)?

It probably will sometime in the future become an issue. Of course I don't think he is really following his religion too closely, and he doesn't seem to care. It might bite him in the ass later. 2nd Corinthians 6:14

Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and Satan? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

probably will until one either accepts the other or the other changes.

or maybe he will become ok with the idea there is no marriage in heaven, you are Gods, and not take responsibility and just accept.

But if you had kids, and have strong beliefs on their education and spiritual... that may be decisions and stress.

I can't imagine a devout Christian giving up trying to get you accept Jesus. They would never give up. They would assume that there was something wrong with you and that you were damned.

Can you imagine them accepting your logic for being agnostic? Logic is meaningless to them when the Bible is all the proof they need for their belief.

So, I have a feeling that your religious differences would become an insurmountable problem unless you devoted yourself to Jesus.

Different religious beliefs only become a problem if you make it be a problem. I'm guessing you don't want to change your beliefs and he doesn't want to change his. If you both respect thst, things are fine. But if one of you tries to change the other, that can blow jo to be a big problem.

In the best relationships, you accept each other for who you are, and don't try to change them.

I don't see a problem. You don't believe in either anyway. He has his covenant with god, and you have yours, or lack thereof. He should be content with your love. Jesus said go out and spread the word, but he also said people have to be willing to accept god into their hearts. It can't be forced.

When I hear the word "devout", that's it for me. I'm actually quite surprised he's dating you, an agnostic leaning Buddhist. I could see a day where he'd be criticized, and you'd be ostracized by his church and its members because you're a non-believer.

Is it worth your investing more time, energy and love? Only you can answer that.

Honestly probably will. Christians (Specifically Baptists) believe that you have to trust to be saved. Since your an agnostic even if he doesn't overtly try to convert you there will likely be a part of him that will want that. Not out of malice but because he believes that you will suffer for an eternity if you don't.

So it's not likely to go away, unless he believes something very different from typical baptist Christians it's going to be a problem.

Yes. Very much so.. there is one thing to have different viewpoints.. but different ideologies and values will wreck a relationship. Women usually break up or divorce men for far less (not paying for dates, not as much ambition as the women would like, etc…) this is something that is actually a creditable conflict as only two solutions will come about, either you break up, or someone completely changes their identity as far as there values.

When its time, ask about how he sees children being raised and agree before getting married. It should be ok as long as BOTH of you are reasonable or flexible. That said, someone in the family will have issue but so what.

If he's okay with your personal beliefs, then this likely won't be an issue unless you have children together, where he will want to raise them in the church.
