I’m not Muslim but in the Christian bible, it says your chances of going to heaven are higher if your not exceedingly rich, and it says God measures your charity by the level of effort you put in, not by how much you have to give.

No, not necessarily. It has more to do with what the wealth does to you and how you use it. Don't let it grow on you that you get attached to it and hence, the dunya that you put the Hereafter lower in priority. Also, being stingy with it won't do you good. Serve the community with the health and you'll be greatly rewarded. This reminds me of a wise saying:
'Put the money in your pocket, don't get put in the pocket of money.'
islam does not teach that as a principle. but the inverse the less you had here the more you will have there gets taught
