To learn about Islam and Muslims. Coexisting with your fellow humans in a state of peace and love is what Christianity's all about (from an interpersonal perspective, anyway), and the vast majority of unnecessary interpersonal difficulties arise because we misunderstand each other.

The "I read banned books" mentality shouldn't be limited to secular ones, after all.

It's still a valuable book to 1.6 billion people in the world. Whether you believe in it or not it has intellectual value to someone who is interested in learning about the 1.6 billion people who follow it. I know atheists who have read the catholic an/ord protestant bibles. Usually protestant, to be fair, but a couple have read the catholic one.

@Iron_Man beat me to it, although he may be wrong about the guys intentions; he may be genuinely interested in what the doctrines and teachings are.

Then again, he may be correct, "Know the Enemy" and all that. I knew military veterans, ardent anti-communists, who had read and studied Che Guevara or Chairman Mao on Guerrilla Warfare, trying to understand "What makes those guys tick, who I might be shooting at and vice versa?"
