After learning about Cell Theory do you believe that there wasn't a creator?

After you learned about how complex cells are and how much design there is in the makeup of living organisms, is there any doubt that a more powerful being created us?

Please don't say something like "I believe in the science" because that will fry my brain.

Nothing makes me more upset than when someone says “I believe in the science.” Like yeah I believe in science too, so wtf does that even mean bro. And it’s always someone who can’t even explain the scientific method.

Like is”I believe in the science” mean you have unwavering loyalty towards something that might not even true, but you have faith that it is? Because that isn’t science.

For me, science in all of its complexities, has a way of offering a glimpse into the divine.
When I think of cell division, I am reminded of the verse found in Psalms “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Just that use of the word knit makes cell division all the more wonderful and personable; knitting takes great skill and care, and the result is something beautiful. In our case, the finished project is a new person, a new animal, a new plant!

To be fair, most of these God deniers are no different to anti-vaxxers, and flat earthers. Their "research" is dubious Youtube videos and opinions of people with no skin in the game.

So they parrot "science" and "research" and try and use them as a panacea. When neither science or research backs up their opinions. They are backed only by the opinions of others like them.

That's something I always found a bit perplexing is how biology seems to spark some controversy among the religious. If anything, I find evolutionary theory the polar opposite of random chaos. It's a way for very orderly designs to emerge. So I think for theists, it could be seen as strong evidence of a creator and hardly its absence.

Even the Pope doesn’t deny the possibility of evolutionary theory. I’m particularly not over religious. It’s hard to not see how complex everything is on a microscopic level and say something didn’t create this.

I'm atheist but not allergic to a more philosophical and deistic idea of God, defined as the most conceivable ideal or first cause or something to this effect. I get a bit skeptical about supernatural claims like virgin births and things to this effect, but I think there's a beauty and harmony and orderliness to the universe. Most of all, looking for it and seeing it seems to enrich our lives.

I remember a debate involving Jordan Peterson in which he was asked about his faith in God, and he somewhat dodged the question and answered, "I try to live my life as though God exists." I loved that answer and believe in very much the same.

There’s a lot of wisdom in religion. It was religion that made areas safer to live in 800 years ago when the world was in a much more violent state. Because religion offered clarity to those who were hopeless and fear into thieves and killers. I could provide the research, but it might take me a while to find it.

The stories themselves I don’t think are meant to be taken too seriously, rather they tell stories with moral lessons.

That's how I like to interpret religious text is to see it as allegorical in nature. I really dislike the new-style militant atheist who completely reject the wealth of wisdom found in ancient religions.

It’s going to sound cliche, but science is becoming a religion of its own. So many people just blindly follow science without understanding what the purpose of science is.

Especially nowadays; I find science has become corrupted and political to a large degree. I no longer take many papers anywhere near as seriously, especially those in the social sciences, unless they include a COI disclosure.

Something I wish was emphasized more in education is critical thinking and understanding exactly what constitutes the scientific method as well as the differences in inductive, deductive, and abductive reasoning.

Even though I read the social sciences, a lot of it is full of shit. They attempt to act like a real science without being empirical.

And you’re right about science being political. Speaking about certain things will get scientists funding cut and ostracized from their respective communities. I personally was not a fan of the vaccine and the way people went about it was scary. I still got mine vaccine though because I was forced by my work.

That is too much power to have over the world even if it’s for our own good.

To comment further on the social sciences. There is a lot of useful information, but people need to pay close attention to what is being said and not to take everything as fact. Sort of like how we just talked about the Bible. People need to use critical thinking skills to decide on their own what to believe.

i mean if i mix amino acids in water they are chemicals that won't move.
