The word Catholic is derived from the Greek word katholikos (universal).
Catholics are members of the Roman Catholic Church and is the most common denomination in the Christian world. Catholics claim that this movement was founded by Peter, one of Jesus' first apostles.
my favorite is second john paulWhat do you think of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Catholic world?
I am Catholic but don’t go to church. I think the Pope is a good guy but he needs to purify the church and rid it of the pedophile shackles as I would call it that it has on now from past and current sins. The church is weaker because of the sin/crimes that happened and that haven’t been purged. Turn the pedo priest in.
Secondly, the church 400-800 years ago was very involved in art which connected it with people. The church needs to reconnect with people via art, the internet, social connections with the community beyond church walls. It is too insulated and needs to connect more to bring the messages needed to be brought.
He needs to lead these efforts but I feel the time has past for him to do so. Perhaps the next Pope will.00 Reply

u +1 yI love and respect him as the Sovereign Pontiff. Unless and until a future pope says otherwise, he is the valid successor of Peter the Apostle.
With that being said, I think he is one of the worst, if not the worst pope the Church has ever had. I miss the earlier days of his pontificate when he took a more simple and less academic approach and emphasized charity and compassion.
As time has gone on though, he has really shown himself to be very bitter, angry, and hateful. According to Vatican insiders, he appears kind, warm, and welcoming, but that only lasts as long as the cameras are turned on. He has been observed to be incredibly arrogant and to explode in fits of childish and foul-mouthed rage when things don't go his way. The former head of the Jesuits adamantly opposed then-Father Bergoglio's appointment as a bishop for that reason, among others.
He's also said a lot of things which are theologically dubious at best. His hatred for the Traditional Latin Mass and those who attend it (like yours truly) is discouraging at best. He, like many other so-called "progressives", has a contempt for age-old wisdom and customs that can at best be described as extreme and, more importantly, arbitrary.
And let's just address the elephant in the room. He has an affection and preference for sexual predators (or their defenders and enablers) that van at best be described as disturbing and vomit-inducing. As a few examples, I'd recommend people look up cases like those of Theodore McCarrick, Marko Rupnik, Julio Grassi, and Robert McElroy/Rachel Mastrogiacomo. He is not the trail-blazing reformer on sex abuse that he's often billed as. Just the opposite.
It will suffice to say for now that I believe that history will judge him very harshly. I hope and pray that he has a conversion of heart, I really do. But until then, there are things people need to know, and none of this is private. All of this is public record. If however someone were still to ask me if they should convert and become Catholic, I would still say yes. Popes come and go (I suspect and sincerely hope that Francis' successor will be more conservative and orthodox; Vatican insiders also suspect so), but the Church and her doctrines are true and will remain until the end of time.

Well, you stirred up all the religion haters and got them all frothing at the mouth.
I caught part of an interview with Pope Francis and he seems to be a very devout Christian and a lover of all that is good in this world. He is certainly not one of the bad ones.

He blesses homosexual "marriage" which the Bible condemns as one of the worst possible sins and specifically states that people who do it "shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yNot my pope. As a traditionalist, I absolutely despise him and think he has damaged the church and created division. He hates the latin mass despite the fact that the latin mass has been the mass of the all the famous saints. Is he greater than those saints? Absolutely not.
He wanted to continue to "modernize" the church, like Vatican II, with all his liberal teachings but all it did was push people away further. Churches are emptier more than ever. But the traditionalists are growing in number. Latin masses are absolutely full to the brim while the Novus Ordo is full of dying old women. Traditional latin seminaries are also full whereas the liberal ones are begging for more priests.11 Reply- +1 y

+1 yThe concept of a Pope does not appear in the Bible. If you want to be a Christian, The Book of Hebrews tells you Jesus of Nazareth is the "High Priest", not a mortal man.
Since the concept of a Pope does not appear in the Bible, that means the Pope is a False Prophet.
Besides, Christianity is wrong in and of itself. "God is not a man," (Numbers 23:19)
Either way, the Pope is a false prophet.

@OtterMan68 lol. That says no such thing. Besides, Jesus doesn't have that authority to give and neither does Peter. God is Almighty, not Jesus nor Peter.

You don't know your own religion. The Pope claims to hear directly from God and regularly speaks as though a Prophetic office. That's the whole alleged point of their being a Pope.

- +1 y
@SeekerOfTruth007 Jesus was who he said he was. God the father is not a man, have you heard of the trinity , Father Son and Holy Spirit God is on my present that means he's everywhere at all times so that's how he could be in heaven while the Son of God Jesus on Earth is praying to him.
- +1 y
Jews wrote the Torah and Prophets and they reject the Trinity. Isaiah did not prophesy a virgin born messiah. He said his YOUNG WOMAN wife would bear a son named Emmanuel, isaiah's son, and the context shows that was a sign to Israel, nothing about a future virgin born Jesus saving the world.
Christianity is totally rejected by the Jews as being Blasphemy. - +1 y
@SeekerOfTruth007 yes the majority of Jews reject Jesus as the Messiah they're still waiting on the Messiah to show up that's why they're going to be fooled by the Antichrist but they eventually will come around when the Antichrist declares himself to be God in the temple

Uhh popes literally hid abusive priests.
www.cbsnews.com/.../ - +1 y
Jp 2 was accused, not convicted. There is a difference. He is now a saint and would not be one if he had aided and abetted child abusers. It also doesn't change the fact that The Vatican City State is a sovereign country under international law and invading it would violate international law.
- +1 y
@Red_Arrow he did and JP2 hid pedophile priests. But to your point neither had a trial.
- +1 y
Hitler had a trial, just by the world instead of a court, and he committed suicide to avoid being blown to bits.
John Paul 2 was accuse by the Polish government of covering up child abuse by the church. That was the government trying to make the Catholic Church look bad since the Church opposed the tyranny of that government. There was NO proof of JP2 trying to hide any sexual crimes. Further, When JP2 became Pope, he he led drafting and putting in place one of the most important constitutions of the contemporary Catholic Church, the 1983 Code of Canon Law, which, among many things, began an effort to curb sexual abuse in the Catholic Church He did NOT hide sexual abuse in the church and led the effort to get rid of it. One person cannot do it all, but he certainly did a lot to root out the abuser, just the opposite of what you claim! - +1 y
@Red_Arrow The canon law didn’t seem to work well if just looking at stats.
But did JP2 save Bernard Law from jail in Boston over covering up sex abuse? Did he provide cover for his biggest fundraiser, Legionnaires of Christ, the guy who raped so much he had kids and raped them too?
Asker+1 yJohn Paul II didn't try to cover anything up, and Pope Francis approved the resignation of an abusive Indian priest and the priest was put on trial.
- +1 y
The Vatican backed the Inquisition, the Crusades, killed Indian children in their schools, and a lot more. They are far from being Christian. They are of Satan and are controlled by him.
