There's a famous verse in the Bible about how it's harder for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven than to thread a camel through the eye of a needle.

while some argue things like "the needles eye is an actual location, the point is you have to get off the camel and remove all your stuff to get through", or "it's a mistranslation that makes it way more dramatic than it actually is," the consensus among pretty much all mainline religions is that giving all that you can reasonably give to help other people is one of the most important things you can do. you don't get richer in money when you give, you get richer in ways that matter more: the soul, spirit, karma, dharma, however you'd like to structure your religious system.
