I’m a big fan of Dante, but from my understanding he couldn’t have gone to hell, purgatory, and heaven because purgatory has never existed. It’s found no where in the Bible.

Dante’s Infierno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso are all considered Catholic doctrine, even if the intention of it was political satire upon its publishing. Purgatory is indeed a concept within catholic mythology, whether it’s “canonical” or not to the bible specifically isn’t in question because you’re right, Purgatory is never mentioned by name in the bible itself. The thing is it’s mentioned in other religious texts that Catholics, which is one of the oldest sects of Christianity, consider to be canonical to their understanding of the realms beyond this one in relation to Christ and God.
