some people take comfort for events happening by having a "Higher power" responsible for them. Some also use the scriptures to make them behave in better/certain ways.
i think its all bollox, but i can respect why they choose to be religious

Your question is moot.

You can only follow a religion, but you believe in it's rules and guidance, or other moral justifications.

You cannot just "believe in religion", any more than you can just "believe you are Martian" and expect to be taken seriously.
