What makes people believe that their religion is the one true religion?

In theory everyone says "i respect your right to a different opinion and religion than mine" but in the end they all believe that their religion and their god is the ONLY right one.
I don't get why first of all
And i don't get how people could be such hypocrites

God saved the best religion for last and that is Islam. Islam predicted exactly what would happen and how the Christians and Jews would double cross others with their own worldly gains by extremist ideas which are now known as Western extremism and Zionism. Fake Muslims would follow Wahabbism which is also twisted but this goes based more on government ideology. I want people to understand the Quran states to care for others, Jesus is mentioned more in the Quran then prophet Muhammad (PBUH), there is an entire chapter dedicated to Mary (Maryam) Jesus' mother in the Quran, the Bible does mention Prophet Muhammad but for some reason Christians excuse those passages as if it doesn't exist.

God says in the Quran, as long as you believe in God and you are a good person you will go to heaven. But even someone claims to be religious regardless, Jew, Christian or Muslim or whomever and they lie, cheat, steal or oppress others then they will taste their punishment on the day of judgement. When I say Islam is the true religion, show me another religion that fasts for 30 days out of the month every year as long as 16 hours. Does prayers 5 times a day.

A religion that does not allow certain drinks or foods like pork or alcohol which God forbidden. People view Muslim countries as "oppressive" well religion was meant to be followed correctly not "altered". Of course there have been dictators or people who claim to be religious but are not. Iran is the perfect example, the United States has been on their ass for over 40 years when the Islamic Revolution started in 1979 by Ayatollah Khomeni and his movement was to liberate a country under a Western-backed stooge as the Shah of the time. Even under severe sanctions go on YouTube and check tourist videos of well-known YouTubers like Mark Weins visiting Iran and the history, delicious food, culture and beauty of that country and often they will say "I didn't know Iran was like this".

Why because the western media puts garbage out there and a lot of Western people and I am pinpointing the people even on this GAG website believe it without doing their own research. Ayatollah Khomenei's movement was to push for the return of the 12th imam 'Imam Mahdi' and that's why the US wants to destroy Iran and make them to be another Iraq or Palestine or Syria. But Iran has flourished in the last 40 years with technology, nuclear capabilities, education and etc. Over 80% of women in Iran at literate yet people view this beautiful Islamic country as a monkey land? Do people know Iran is a Shia based country that has the second largest Jewish population and many Jewish people feel at home in Iran because they are not persecuted and harassed.

The way Zionist Israel tortures and kills Palestinians especially Palestinian kids. Islam believes in a day of judgment, Islam believes in the coming of Christ, Islam believes in many things that are similar to Judaism or Christianity but the media has done everything they can to distort Islam but yet Islam is the fastest growing religion today. The Quran has so much information that people don't seem to care about -- how to treat others, how wealth should be distributed, how animals should be treated nicely, how women should be treated fairly and respectfully. If you look throughout time all the prophets and Imams of our time have been where? In the Middle-East, and what is the Middle-East considered? Muslim lands. Here is a Jewish professor saying that all the prophets including Jesus is indeed Muslim.

Many people in this world have the religion of their parents drilled into them from the time they were children. They never question whether their religion is true or false.

As for me, I was brought up Christian, as my parents drilled it into me, but I became disillusioned with it, and was an agnostic for several years, I looked at several other religions (including Wicca), but they all seemed to be lacking in one thing or another. I eventually decide Christianity was the correct religion, based on their generosity to others who weren’t Christian, and that Jesus said, “I am the truth, the light, and the life everlasting. No one comes to God the Father, except through me.” It indicates to me that Jesus was not just some prophet.

It’s true, some denominations are corrupted with pagan protocol and mysticism, and some Christians have used their religion to conquer and exploit others, but they have kind of strayed from the true path. Look at how the Catholic Church has tried for decades to hide pedophile priests and bury the issue in their own protocols, rather than come clean on the whole thing. The slime of the pedophiles rubs off on the Catholic Church, making THEM slimy.

I respect others who have a different religion, although I personally think their religion is wrong.

Christianity is a spirituality and not a religion. Religions are works based. It deals with what you can do and you taking self credit. Spirituality is based on what others can do through you for your benefits. In the case of Christianity, it is a spirituality. It really comes down to lack of self-awareness and lack of humility.
Many people don't get how others also have their own reasoning and have made their own analysis of the situation. How does a person decide if their point of view is the correct one? You can't just say that--that only means you believe you know better than others. And this is a sign of delusion!

Which religion is right? In my opinion, I don’t even know. I can easily say "there's no god" or "there's only one god" but ultimately, I have no way to prove myself right. It sounds more logical to say that gods don't exist, but even that statement can be wrong.

So when someone asks me "do you believe in god" I can't answer, I just say I have no idea lol.

I'll ask you this question: why would someone not be convinced their own religion is the true religion? Usually people believe in a religion because they believe it will lead them to heaven/God. If someone weren't convinced of their own religion then they don't really believe in it do they? I don't think I am a hypocrite for respecting others beliefs, opinions and traditions, because that is just the normal way to treat others. But if I do have the chance of telling others of my belief that Jesus died for me then I will do that. And of course I think that my religion is the only right one, because otherwise I wouldn't truly believe in it.

The answer is simple:

When you are born, raised and / or always surrounded by people that believe a certain thing and / or act a certain way, there's always a higher chance you will be the same as them and / or similar. You believe the one you are born in to is true because you trust the people that taught it to you more than someone from a different religion / culture.
This is also the effect of indoctrination, if you're raised and / or taught to believe something and also taught to just accept it without criticism as well as (in certain religions) the use of fear (of the consequences of not believing and / criticism of said religion) especially from childhood, it's only natural that you will think that yours must be the correct religion and others are false, not only are you convinced, you're also fearful that if you waver from it even a little, you could be in big trouble after you die.

But people of other beliefs are lost or naive to not follow the true and only faith... I did studied some theology, and all the arguments each religion brings if them being the true one... Are the exact same ones every other religion does... And not all religions do that... Its very proeminent in Christianity and Islamic religions... Buddhism doesn't claim that... Religion is a plague on society. People think the bible or scriptures are accurate representations of history when it's obvious they were written by normal humans to control the masses. Maybe the initial reason make the religions was good because order was needed in a time of chaos, but we'll never know for sure. Religion literally teaches you to not think rationally. If you were raised by buddhists, there's a good chance you would be buddhist. If you were raised Christian, there's a good chance you will remain Christian. I think it's a little bit of narrow minded entitlement, different religions are more or less mellow about pushing their agenda. Take islamic terrorism for example, they terrorise people into falling for their religion as a second glove motive for their philosphy of intended death being the passage to their god.

Religion is also somewhat similar to a family, people want to belong. So when a different religious belief does not belong into the narrative of their religion, then there is a conflict of different religious beliefs and so alterations are made to a hypothetical god whenever mild or major, resulting in countless acclaimed one true religions.

Logically it is impossible that all religions are right since they are all inconsistent with each other. Christianity is one of two choices God or the world. Religions sell the lie that there are more than two choices. Christianity is the antithesis to world religions because every world religion works on the principle of what works you must do to appease god (some make the universe, nature, or what they worship). Where in Christianity, there is nothing you did or could ever do to appease God, by accepting Jesus (who died on our part) and repenting we are clean. Jews believe Jesus was a prophet
Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet

If you would look back to history you would see the dots connect. Christianity came from Jewish religion in old testament or jewish tora they waited for messiah and the messiah was Jesus which jews didn't recognized or rejected him. So from that came christianity. Islam came much more later before christianity which you can see its copy of the bible and they believe many similar things and believe in Jesus but as prophet. I think it has to do with your upbringing, when you're raised with certain views and principals (of your community) are implanted in your mind so it becomes the norms the right, the absolute truth to you, of course ones you grow up you may start to question it and even not be satisfied/rebel against it (but that's another story).

Well for me I converted from atheism to Christianity and then from Christianity to Catholicism.
For me it was due to the writings of G. K Chesterton, J. R. R. Tolkein and C. S. Lewis, as well as other Christian apologetics.

I do think other faith's are misleading and untrue. However, its bad taste to put others down. I only care about the conversion of those close to me.

Christianity teaches to love thy neighbor as thy self. I treat each human life with dignity, doesn't mean I have to accept their faith. I respect people's free will to believe what they want. But I dont respect their faith.

I think a lot of Cradle Christians and people born into Islam have trouble articulating their faith.

Some come to believe what they do through upbringing, some through research or life experience.

Also, there is nothing hypocritical about believing in one way and also not enforcing that belief upon others. In fact, the peaceful rather than forceful spreading of the faith might be required.

Finally, the idea of "believe what you want" is also a dogmatic belief system that in effect believes that every other system is wrong.

When you have experienced supernatural events it changes your outlook on life. I've talked with a guy who's tried multiple religions, he swears they are different and there is only one true God. Most people haven't experienced anything and just live by tradition/religion and have the own opinions on what it right.
