If you look at the parable of the shrewd manager in the bible, mercy does not always mean behaving as if your enemy owes you nothing, mercy might mean, you still expect your enemy to be penalized by God, but you are more than willing to reduce the degree of punishment they will receive.
I have had people disrespect me in extremely cruel ways. And I told God, I can forgive them enough not to want or pray for them to go to hell, but I am not eager to forgive them to the point where their life is like a Disney paradise.
I do not feel happy about them having perfect lives after the inexcusably bad way they treated me. But I can forgive them enough that I do not want them to suffer terrible things even though they treated my dignity in a terribly insulting way.
That is the half tribe of Manasseh, which is half forgiveness.

That is a really deep way to look at it. It's true that true forgiveness is more about letting go of wanting revenge and wishing eternal harm on someone, rather than pretending everything is suddenly sunshine and roses!
