Also a kind of instinct or flawed perception that many humans seem to have, that makes us feel like our reality is more real than anybody else's.
This doesn't only affect to religion but to every personal ideas that we consider ours. What is ours feels more real. And we consider that what feels real must be true.
Honestly, I have a certain belief system, but I often wonder if what really does exist is kind of a mix of all of the religions. I have a feeling it's completely different than what we will expect.
I also wonder if most religions are just different interpretations of mostly the same thing.
Because I thoroughly looked up and did my research.
I recommend you do too. Don't just believe a religion because you're both into it. Don't just practice because your forefathers have done it. Do it because you know this is the right path.
nice question , I asked same question in different website. if you think about it you will find it quite tricky. because if everyone Refute his religion and transfer to the true religion. he will find out that he come back to the beginning were he asked him self what makes me think this is the right one? making a huge step out of my previous religion doesn't mean that I made the right step to the true religion, what if my previous religion I born and raised with it was the right religion but I couldn't see it?
I think some religion have more evidence then others but at the end. there must be gap of knowledge that you can't know for sure. and there, we use the believe/faith to cover this gab of knowing. imagine that we know 100% this religion is true. then we don't need to have faith or to believe on it because it's %100 true, this will destroy the core of any religion. and as we know in physics there is no An imperative in physics, not when it happens (review Schrodinger's cat experience)
if measure any religion in modern Modern ethical rules , it probably will fall because ethical rules keep changing with time with what society think it's acceptable or not. I don't need to give you an example of how fast society ethics keep changing.
i'm thinking there is a lot of bullshit in all religions but also some pretty decent moral guidelines (not all... like gays being sinners? bitch please)
Well for me I converted from atheism to Christianity and then from Christianity to Catholicism. For me it was due to the writings of G. K Chesterton, J. R. R. Tolkein and C. S. Lewis, as well as other Christian apologetics.
I do think other faith's are misleading and untrue. However, its bad taste to put others down. I only care about the conversion of those close to me.
Christianity teaches to love thy neighbor as thy self. I treat each human life with dignity, doesn't mean I have to accept their faith. I respect people's free will to believe what they want. But I dont respect their faith.
I think a lot of Cradle Christians and people born into Islam have trouble articulating their faith.
1. All religions appear true within their frame of reasoning.
2. Add that with cultural conditioning, most people will end up thinking theirs is true.
3. Others won't have a problem with someone's belief as long as there isn't a conflict of interest (even if they mutually regard each other a bit ignorant).
Some come to believe what they do through upbringing, some through research or life experience.
Also, there is nothing hypocritical about believing in one way and also not enforcing that belief upon others. In fact, the peaceful rather than forceful spreading of the faith might be required.
Finally, the idea of "believe what you want" is also a dogmatic belief system that in effect believes that every other system is wrong.
I’m a christian. In the Bible it literally says we should serve nothing but him. This can be seen in a bunch of examples in the Bible.
What your saying is being hypocrite isn’t clear.
I do respect other people for believing different things than me although I think mine is right. Why does that make me a hypocrite? I still respect them and love them regardless.
Whatever the cause may be, their pursuit of purpose transcends their pursuit of logic.
So many are willing to believe a lie in order to have some peace of mind. But you also have the types that are just going along with it because it's not a big deal to them and it will only help them in their social circles.
Welcome to one of the big philosophic questions. Or at least a part of it. Honestly good luck understanding the hypocrisy of religion. Beyond willful ignorance I have no clue. I simply hope there is some greater being bit if there is I freer we are nothing more than an experiment as that is what we would do. And as most religions say we were created in "gods" image.
Politics have merely replaced religion as the dominant form ethical discourse in the West. People who are dogmatic about their political opinion=those who are dogmatic about their political opinions. Some people who preach tolerance are also the most hateful when it comes to politics.
I've taken a few world religion courses for 2 years (including the study of atheism). People should really try to learn in perspectives of others before believing in what they grew up with.
Because of the other people who they like and want to impress and be with for all eternity? Plus they say the Holy Spirit talks to your spirit about it and reassures you and stuff like that I think I remember hearing.. You can't really say for sure 100 percent tho that it is the only true religion without any doubt whatsoever can you.. You'd think they'd be lying wouldn't you? .. I don't know..
That's what faith is all about I suppose? Believing your faith is the true one and holding that confidence, other wise it'd be hard for you to stay in that religion wouldn't it.
The basic psychology of religion utilises the warm glow deriving from "knowing" that you are right and everybody else is wrong. If you don't think that, you are not a "true believer".
Because these people are usually not used to think for themselves. They love their country because they're born there. They love their parents because they're their parents. And they believe in their religion because it's their's.
Religion is useful, even if not true. It's a tool.
@The6ix What? Tf does that have to do with anything? Also if you wanna say capitalism is bad, capitalism brought us South Korea, communism brought us North Korea
alright not dinosaurs, the Qu'ran says that the earth is the center of all things and the sun and moon rotate around it (making it a geocentric theory) when that has been proved wrong. So what you're saying that you believe the Qu'ran over scientific evidence?
A token unto them is night. We strip it of the day, and lo! they are in darkness. And the sun runneth on unto a resting-place for him. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Wise. And for the moon We have appointed mansions till she return like an old shrivelled palm-leaf. It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor doth the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit. Qur'an 36:37-40 I have, you're not answering my question
You're most likely to follow the religion that your parents follow or that your country society believes in, it's just another learnt behaviour for most people.
That is learned behavior , notice the correct spelling. Satan created Islam , and the other religions to muddy the water and cast doubt about Christianity.
First of all, I'm from Scotland so it is, in fact, learnt not learned don't go around correcting people when you're too ignorant to understand that not everywhere uses American English.
Secondly, I'm not going to argue this as all this is, is your opinion and I can almost guarantee you'll just keep repeating the same point no matter how many times it's shown to be inconsistent or illogical.
Faith is all they need. No need to prove anything or that its the only true religion. It's all about having faith and to believe it regardless if it's true.

Beign told so since they are children, normally.

This doesn't only affect to religion but to every personal ideas that we consider ours. What is ours feels more real. And we consider that what feels real must be true.
We forget that a feeling is not a fact.
I'm not really sure.
Honestly, I have a certain belief system, but I often wonder if what really does exist is kind of a mix of all of the religions. I have a feeling it's completely different than what we will expect.
I also wonder if most religions are just different interpretations of mostly the same thing.
I don't believe it...
I know it.
Because I thoroughly looked up and did my research.
I recommend you do too. Don't just believe a religion because you're both into it. Don't just practice because your forefathers have done it. Do it because you know this is the right path.
i'm an atheist and a member of TST
What's TST?
The Satanic Temple
Oh ok

You hit on one of the things that made me give up on religion. All of them.
Smart man

talk about indoctrination
Because these people are usually not used to think for themselves. They love their country because they're born there. They love their parents because they're their parents. And they believe in their religion because it's their's.
Religion is useful, even if not true. It's a tool.
Being shown it from childhood. It's basically just religious chauvinism caused from exposure at a young age
hmmm so by your estimation its ok for capitalism to destroy, kill, oppress, torture, rape? Yep that's what the enlightenment period brought us.
@The6ix What? Tf does that have to do with anything? Also if you wanna say capitalism is bad, capitalism brought us South Korea, communism brought us North Korea
don't even try dude, he's bitter because i showed a major flaw in his explanations and he's been dodging me ever since trolling anyone else
People are entities programmed to believe.
If atheists like you don't believe in religions, other people also believe that their religion is true.
ever heard of evidence and proof?
God says "There are some people. They have eyes but they don't see they have ears but they can't hear
ok so your god says dinosaurs don't exist yet we have evidence they did exist. Your explanation please?
Islam never rejected dinosaurs
alright not dinosaurs, the Qu'ran says that the earth is the center of all things and the sun and moon rotate around it (making it a geocentric theory) when that has been proved wrong. So what you're saying that you believe the Qu'ran over scientific evidence?
You should investigate this well
A token unto them is night. Qur'an 36:37-40
I have, you're not answering my question
If you investigate, you will find that this is true. I have homework I can discuss this later
You say the sun rotates around the earth?
Don't bother saying anything else. You proved my point

@888theGreat so religions that predate Christ... like Greeks, Romans, Norse, Egyptians, Sumerians etc... who were they made up by?
Satan was there at the beginning. He was the number one Angel at one time. The best looking Angel, but was cast out of Heaven.
@888theGreat so Satan was Zeus, Odin, Amon Ra, Jupiter and all the OTHER gods as well? delusion at it's finest
