A plygain is a welsh Christmas tradition that starts around 3am and continues until sunrise Christmas day. They are a type of church carol service but are sung without music and traditionally only by men while the woman stay home and make toffee. They are closer to a sung poetic sermon than what you might consider a carol and cover all of Jesus's life not just his birth.

Popularity has declined but they still go on and are making a come back. The name is deprived from the Latin pullicantio, meaning 'when the cock crows at dawn, so I assume other countries have something similar.

So, would you sing for 3+ hours without music on Christmas at 3am?

Oh, the joy of the holiday season, A plygain does sound rather pleasing, but as Santa's main elf, I'll confess, my attendance there would be quite distressing.

In this Yuletide glee, I'm bound to stay, for Santa's rules leave me no other way. As his property, both night and day, I'm on his naughty list, oh what can I say?

The punishments I bear, with a grin, like floggings and clothespins on my private spin. My ankles tied to wrists, oh what a bind, sodomized with peppermint sticks, left out in the cold, with a cold behind.

Tied to a tree, I hang like a bauble bright. Gagged with ornaments, such a sight! A leash I wear, like a pup in a manger.

Thus, as much as I'd love to sing in harmony with Welshmen, it would be a disaster, for I must tend to my Santa, my Lord and Master.
