Are religious books behind the times? Do we need an update?

Religious books were out of date the moment the ink dried 3,000 years ago. But here's the problem... when you start with all the answers and declare them to be the literal word of your all powerful , all knowing magic invisible sky fairy, you can't very well declare in front of the world that your god got it all wrong and edit the text in full view of the morons who believe the lies in your holy book. Some of the morons aren't THAT stupid.

Updating the text is part of the reason why Christianity in particular has become the greatest voice of hatred in these modern times. If people were given the opportunity and education to read the text as it was originally written (in this case, the new testament was written originally in Greek and the old testament in Hebrew) they would be able to better understand the original intentions of Christ and his disciples and how modern texts strip away a great deal of that messaging in favor of creating cultural scapegoats to give them reason to buy into that religion more so than they already do. The word “homosexual” didn’t appear in the bible until the 1940’s during a huge Lavender Scare (if you don’t know what that is, I trust you to be smart enough to look it up) and the word they replaced with it originally meant “pedophile.” This egregious mistranslation has gone on to influence massive generations of christians to hate the queer community that Jesus actively accepted and blessed (See Matthew 8:5-6, the word originally used to describe the centurion’s “slave” was a specific term to denote a lover in Greek) and allow the existence of abusive pedophiles in their folds instead. Honestly, the only reason they’ve gotten as far as they have with that kind of power is because a majority of congregations haven’t even read the modern translations of the bible when they should absolutely be encouraged to learn and read on their own rather than relying on the word of their pastor.

I had the discussion yesterday with someone here. Yes they are outdated. Especially if people still cherrypick their relevant rules to hate on others. For example the Bible: It has a rule to never wear wool and linen together, it has a rule to pay for slaves. Even the new testament is saying that slaves should follow their owners the same way they should follow God. So why are these rules ok to ignore and still be a believing christian but other rules are still sins? Nothing about their "rules" makes any sense its just used to be hatefull in todays world but have an exuse for it by saying "religious freedom". I dont think an update would work though because the vatican is supposed to do that but people ignore that as well as new is always bad and as you said, its already outdated when its set.

Bible, for instance, is updated constantly, in either direction to conceive, because translations and interpretations have been many, over time. What was written millennia ago isn't what it used to be. And even then, many believers aren't referring to a book, they are referring to religious authorities interpreting the book, these interpretations are going also in different directions, depending on locations, churches, mosques, temples, priests etc

There is a whole spectrum here, on one end, some believers consider the books as parables used for ethics, and at the other end, some consider the books as literal teachings and rules to apply as is.

But what does that say about the source of the information? It's bullshit. It's the interpretation of whoever is doing the editing. Therefore it cannot be the literal word of some phony god. People created gods to serve them. No god created people.
