If you are only good because a higher power is telling you to, you are not actually good. You just fear what happends if you dont.
So I think a person who is good because of their believe in a higher power is never actualy good and just acts that way. That also explains how a lot of believers have a weird moral compass because they are just told what is good and evil, they dont actually know what good is.

Religion was the first set of laws we had as a society, promising rewards for the obedient and punishment for the rebellious. And then as society grew and we developed government, that didn’t really change. There are definitely people who would do terrible things without remorse if there were no consequences for their actions

Yep. Not only do you have to believe in a higher power, you have to believe specifically in the God of the Israelites and be God yourself to be good. As Jesus stated "No one is good except God alone". The English word ""good" directly comes from "God". That is the source in the Germanic languages in historic Christian Europe.

Most people try to be good, but do not measure up. If you don't like that fact, then find another language to speak. That's what the English word good means.

  You're not being logical at all. You're very scattered brained. You asked about being a "Good" person. I told you the origin of the word "Good" which comes directly from the God of the Israelites. I gave you the words of Jesus claiming "No one is good except God alone". So the next logic step is that the rules that define God's nature (i. e. Goodness), are what limit God. It's not possible for the God of the Israelites to not be "Good", because that is what "Good" is. If any person were to be Good, they would be God. Thus why we as humans are not so great at being Good, because we are not Gods. That's the very nature of the God Yahweh, to be Good. Rather than follow that logical progression, you derailed the conversation to distract onlookers from the logical conclusion.

  A = A. 1 = 1. God = Good. It's not possible for God to be anything but Good. God doesn't have the freewill to be Good or Evil. God's very nature is Good/God. People try to mimic God's behavior and follow divine law, when they try to be Good. Humans are not very successful at it. We sin a lot. Knowing something and not acting to control it, doesn't make you evil. Rebelling against Good/God, makes you Bad. God gave you free will. You can choose to try to be Good and be closer to God, or you can rebel and be Bad. That's not his choice, that's your choice. You were the one granted free will. God has to be Good.   Your entire theological standard seems to be that if someone doesn't put a creature into the bondage of slavery and force the outcome of their decisions to be exactly as desired then they are evil. You seem to think Slavery is good and Freedom is bad. That's ass backwards as far as I'm concerned. In Judeo-Christian beliefs God grants Freedom for creatures to make decision.

  The Old English gōd arrives with the implementation of Christianity into Anglo-Saxon culture and then is evolves into the modern pronunciation good. Good is the God of the Israelites. You can't be Good without God, and God can't be anything other then Good or he's cease to be God.

this is their plan. and by "their", you know who i mean. without judeo-christian ideas you can't serve them. they know that they made up religion and i'm sure it was easy to fool simple minded people in the old times. but those times are mostly gone. there are still a lot of people that need to believe in something, but logic has prevailed over brainwashing.
if capitalism dies, i don't know what they're going to do. they have us under their thumb for now only because they can bankrupt our society and cause our society to collapse. at least that's what they think. i don't believe that. we don't need them at all. for as long as you let them, they will be the higher power. it isn't GOD. it's the DOLLAR/ (jevv).

  There are many people who are adamant about being humiliated—for example, being r*ped, abused, and so on. If they go on to perform these acts on others, would they be considered "good"? After all, such people do exist—and if a universal definition of "good" is required, then defining it on a case-by-case basis would make the concept of a universal "good" impossible.
