With both Eastern and Western churches celebrating Easter on the same day this year, and the Pope passing away on Easter Monday, it feels like a historic moment. But are people still connecting with the spiritual meaning, or is it more about chocolate eggs and family dinners?

Meanings change. Look at Veterans day in the U. S. and probably other Western countries. It used to be warriors day where everyone would just get drunk and celebrate their fallen warriors and that shit came from the Scandinavians. or Vikings. Same fucking day, sort of the same meaning, and just a different name. Hallows eve and Halloween for instance... Christmas used to be the day we played dress up as monsters for candy and that took a huge switch-o-roo didn't it... Halloween used to just be a burning man party. I'm sure a lot of changes like that has happened in the East and elsewhere as well. .

We humans adjust things for whatever is going on.

I'm not religious, so I don't celebrate religious holidays.

I celebrate secular holidays, for example New Years.

I decorate New Years tree, and I get New Years gifts.

This is what it is really about. And the same thing about Christmas. Both are Christian holidays. Secular people just look at the presents and candy. Same with marriage.

Easter is a hybrid holiday. It's pagan and was changed so Christians would follow suit.
