Unfortunately everyone absolutely everyone does post hoc rationalizations to justify their behaviors good or bad. It's the human condition. As I like to say to people when they are amazed that they don't see how shitty they are being... We all right the story of our lives in our head in during our life. We never ever personally make ourselves the villain of our own story. The cognitive dissonance is just too high. The victim sure. The villain no. I am pretty sure that even the serial killer Jeffery Dahmer wasn't the villain of his own story. Even though he was about a pathologic as person can be. So it normal for people to lack objectivity about themselves when being douches to other humans. It's not a good thing just a innate human flaw. It requires a lot of self awareness and cognitive humility to even question your own motives and beliefs. We would all be better off if we did, but we don't.
