I have mixed feelings. I've gone back and forth between feeling more encouraged and less so. I think there's a distinct possibility, even high degree of likelihood that he will have more in common with Francis than I'd like (maybe just won't hate faithful orthodox Catholics as viciously and aggressively as Francis didn't, at least). There's even a chance he could be worse than Francis, who was absolutely dreadful. I've even said downright evil, and I truly believe he was.

However, nothing is set in stone. If he turns out to be better than I suspect, then blessed be God. If he turns out to be worse, well then I'll continue to pray, fast, and study. He could push or allow things to go to wrong that the pope who succeeds him will have to be a more conservative and traditional reactionary. It's widely reported that younger Catholics are much more conservative and traditional than the Gen X and Boomer Catholics. The younger priests are skewing more conservative and before too long, they'll be bishops and cardinals. Whatever the progressives have been trying to do to the Church can't and won't last but maybe another generation.

In the meantime, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and pray fervently for him and continue to love and spiritually lead and guide my family as I ought to. We had a massive battle coming up one way or the other.
