At any rate, I don't get the sense that Leo is as liberal as some make him out to be; he has been described as a "centrist". In fact, I think there is a chance that he might actually become somewhat more conservative as time goes on (and there is precedent; two very conservative popes started out as more liberal, Pope Blessed Pius IX and even Pope Leo XIV's predecessor in the Leonine line, Leo XIII).

Even if he does turn out to be more liberal though, I have to wonder how long the liberals and progressives in the Church think this will last. If you look at the numbers, Millennial and Gen Z priests are skewing more conservative; Gen Z more so. The oldest among the Millennial priests are now in their early 40s. They're not far off from becoming bishops and cardinals. And barring the Second Coming, there will be a Millennial pope, followed by a Gen Z pope. I believe those men will be much more traditional and conservative.

It is important to note though that the Church is not a political organization or political party. There might be teachings she has that might be favored or applied practically more in one direction than the other, but that doesn't make them political issues. I would hope that a conservative pope would still remind everyone that they must help the poor and welcome the stranger (no, that does NOT mean "open borders").

I plan to write a MyTake sooner or later about the Catholic Church and politics. I don't know when I'll get to it though.

And no, Jesus Christ was very much not the left-wing hippie that many people believe him to be.
