If the vessel containing it was infinite, could consciousness expire?

Does the mind inherently deteriorate, or is it a side effect of the body deteriorating?
I’m watching “Alien Earth” and an experiment compels questions that they haven’t asked on the show yet.
If you can transfer your consciousness to an artificial vessel that would “never” deteriorate and expire, would your mind live on forever? Is there a limit to what you can experience before the mind shuts down from possible overload? Or could the mind actually be limitless in its potential if the frailty of our bodies was removed from the equation?

You would need to define "consciousness" as well as its location in humans in order to answer this question.

Define it however you like. It’s a philosophical question inspired by scifi fantasy fiction. Ell oh ell!
It did occur to me that people who are religious might attach their consciousness to their soul, and therefore already believe it’s eternal. I wonder too if that means that they will be religiously opposed to the process used in the show, if it were ever to become a reality.
