Is it eternal damnation worthy to kill someone?

I'm not saying I'm planning on killing anyone, though I have thought about this question for a few months now. From the Bibles perspective, it says that before Christ was walking amongst men, that God would tell His people (Jews) who to kill or destroy. Then the 10 commandments were written down and thou shalt not kill is one of them.

Now a days, the killing has not stopped but what is it like to kill someone? If I was to end someone's life, would I be damned for eternity? Does it depend on who I was to kill for it to be right? Such as those who would do me harm and I retaliate with death upon them.

Anyway, just curious.
