Vengeance, 100%. I'm not saying that makes it wrong necessarily, just that the definition of justice is to prove something beyond a shadow of a doubt, which without court, forensics and all that jazz is tough to do. Regardless, either make sure you won't get caught or hit them with a car.
Was the person in your hypothetical question killed in an accident by the other person? Like a car crash? Was it cold and calculated? Was it out of anger? I need more information. First example, it is pure vengeance.
The other two it would also be an act of vengeance, but it is also justified, therefore it is just.
I don't think it's complicated at all. It's both. If they can kill one of my loved ones, they can kill again. Having them gone would make the world a safer place.
Separation between justice and vengeance has been solved centuries ago. This is the foundation of many judiciary systems in the world.
And it's not ideal, but at least it's sound in essence

I believe in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. If someone kills someone in cold blood, then killing them is justice. That would end the chain of hatred right there and then. The killer's loved ones should not be allowed to retaliate to justice, because it's fair.
I would guess justice as vengeance would be killing their loved one to make them hurt the same as you
often death is justice say an illegal raped and killed your daughter what should the penalty be
It is vengeance.
Justice is when you act in the interest of society at large AND HAVE NO personal motive at stake.
The Bible says we must forgive. Forgiving doesn't mean forgetting. You can forgive someone and still want them to be kept away from the public in a prison.
The death penalty has never been about justice: it's always been about revenge.
It's vigilantism and vengeance. Like they say, "Dig two graves..."
They would not just die id keep them alive for a while to make sure they want to die first but I'm complicated like that
It's potentially both
Both justice and vengeance
Justice for them, revenge for me.
Why not both
Both.
