The Elysian Fields of Greek/Roman mythology sounded nice, Annwn of celtic mythology sounded fun, even Limbo, the outer ring of Hell in Dantes inferno seems pleasant enough. But a big city? No thanks.
So why do you actually want to go there?

It's better than the alternative of toasting marshmallows in hell' Luke 16
“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
Very clearly put.
I have a different idea of heaven than the biblical. It is a place where there is no suffering. An ideal world. And if you do not want to live in an urban area, but perhaps a cabin surrounded by nature, there is absolutely room for that. There is no limit to God's creative power. And if you've lived a good life, you will not be punished for that.
That is why I wish to go the heaven, besides reuniting with loved ones.
Well, if there are only the two choices, heaven or hell, wouldn't people prefer an overcrowded city over fire and brimstone for eternity.
There's an interesting story...
A noted politician (fill in whoever you want) dies and goes to hell. The devil meets him and offers him the choice of three doors. Whichever one he chooses, the person in the door will be allowed to go to heaven. The first door has Hitler pounding rocks over and over. "No, I can't do that forever." the politician says. The second door has Jeffrey Dahmer digging a hole in the ground. As soon as he finishes the hole, it fills up and he has to dig again. "No, I can't do that forever." The third door has Bill Clinton lying on a bed with a Monica Lewinsky servicing him, over and over. "Yes, I can do that," the politician says. "Okay," says the devil. "Monica, you can go to heaven now."
That jokes older than the bible
😂😂😂😂
Updated story : Drum Roll Please. H politician dies and arrives at the pearly gates induction center. St Peter greets him and says, " I see in the book of life, that you were a politician." "Politicians get to visit each location for Eternal life and Choose where they will stay". "You will be in each local for a day and then report back here". An elevator appears with an attendant to take the politician to Hell. When the door opens the politician hears music and sees dancing and singing, a real festival. He joins in. The day passes and soon an elevator appears the attendant takes him to Heaven. As the door swings open, the politician sees a multitude worshiping God with prayers and hymns. This continues for the entire day. When asked where he wanted to spend his eternity, the politician quickly replied "Hell". He boards the elevator and is transported to Hell. When the door opens, he does not see a party situation at all. He see the burning toil described in scripture. "What happened to the dancing and singing and drinking I was shown yesterday"? Satan replies "Oh that? Yesterday we were campaigning"
If a soul is not physical matter how can it be crowded?
Purple Poppy , all of religious scripture and mankind's descriptions of celestial locations are hindered by a lack of vocabulary sufficient to describe what we don't understand. Example, If we were to land a helicopter in a Neanderthal settlement how would they describe it. They could only use the terms they understood. It would seem magical. But we know it is not magic. We would also have to consider the society's restriction and taboos might prevent them from using terms that could bve more accurate. That goes for us too.

Gold is a conductor for electricity, and it lasts against corrosion very well. When we go to heaven we become a piece of God, as the apostle Paul said "we shall be changed." God is light and energy, and so we also will be. And what better place to flow with all that energy in a conductive golden power house?
You are talking about the new Jerusalem, which will not actually be in heaven but will come down to earth. Heaven or even the new Jerusalem are not something we can fully imagine or understand, and John described those things to the best of his human understanding. I'm okay with not getting it entirely. It means it'll probably be a lot greater than just imagining a boring golden city.
Well, since I'm Pagan and lesbian I don't think the Christian committee was really saving me a seat there in the first place. Besides I bet there's not one good pub that features dwarf tossing in the whole damn place.
Funny girls are not allowed in heaven 😂
@RandomGirl42 Don't Pagans believe in reincarnation?
@AngryCarl3 Oh, absolutely. It just has nothing to do with Christian concepts of Heaven.
cool
Every good thing of this world, joy, music, color, beauty, peace... etc. It will all be better.
We will know God, all mysteries revealed. "Eye has not seen, nor heard, nor has entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those that love him"
"There will be no death, no tears, no more pain. For the former things have passed away, behold all has become new."
We will be in our perfect bodies, forever young, we will have joy and purpose.
I mean, that might sound great for some people but honestly that’s not my cup of tea. What I wanna go to hell? No, but to be honest, I’d rather just come back here, re live life again, grow up, suffer, fall in love get married, start a family and rediscover everything all over again endlessly throughout time, that seems like the better option than either heaven or hell.
Better than that? Give me 100 year loop, let me forget the previous loop and spend my time with one amazing woman over and over again, because the unpleasant stuff is part of what makes you appreciate the things that are pleasant, and if you know everything there’s no longer a sense of adventure, everything is new until you get used to it.
Living a cycle, where you forget everything repeatedly? Time doesn’t matter anymore, and you never get the opportunity to lose appreciation for what you have.
Infinity is only worth it if there is something to learn, something new to experience and someone to share that all with.
You have Peace In heaven. You no longer feel physical pain or hurt inside from depression or worry about problems there is no problems. You have the perfect body Always, and you are extremely happy you no longer hurt. Do you want to live in hell? You also work in heaven
I don't recall any scriptural reference to heaven being a big golden city, maybe you're referring to the Wizard if Oz. My bible says it is the Holy City and the place where Jesus lives a placd of joy and song. Spirtually you can be in heaven now while being on the earth.
Hell is also misunderdtood as it not only will be a place of eternal burning fire but a place of silence where no sound will be heard for eternity.
@purplepoppy thanks for the like Poppy
Revelations 21:
18And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
King James version: https://www.bible.com/bible/1/REV.21.KJV
@Maybe_Maybe_not This does not refer to heaven but to the heavenly city which is the bride of Christ adorned for her husband. The Jasper refers to Christ himself.
Okay, so there's a golden city and a throne on a rainbow, both in heaven, and that's all it seems
The way I look at it is that the human eye only perceives reality in a narrow bandwidth. We only understand the world on 3 dimensions. Heaven is a place we being mortal and only human in this form can not really understand.
Ultimately, vision is a collaborative process where the eyes detect light and the brain interprets, edits, and creates the final, conscious image.
It's funny how the goat herders who invented the idea of God and heaven were so unimaginative that the best they could do was imagine God in the image of a great king and Heaven to look like a great city made of gold and precious gems.
Why didn't they picture Heaven like Eden?
I never understood it myself. We’re meant to forego earthly riches for His love, but then heaven is a golden city? 😂😂😂
My city has 3,300 laneway bars. That is 9 bars per day and I think you can't considered bar hopping in the attraction list of heaven.
I am expecting Heaven to have an even more thriving laneway bar scene, so yeah I want to go.
Heaven isn’t appealing because of luxury, it’s appealing because of peace.
The idea isn’t perfection; it’s freedom from suffering, fear, and loss.
Christians claim you’ll worship God for eternity, well I don’t admire or respect the Christian God, I’m sure as hell not gonna waste my time worshipping a genocide committing maniac. I don’t believe in God, heaven or hell. Therefore make the most of your time here.
Fuck Heaven. That's boring. I'm going to Valhalla where I can have fun fucking and drinking and fighting and eating to my heart's content.
It’s an idealized city with lots of open countryside in between the districts. Remember, the Jews were nomads just settling down after decades of wandering in the desert. To them, an idealized city sounded like paradise.
I hate the cold so when I die and go to hell I will just go "AHHHHHH". Besides allmy friends will be there.
Truthfully, I don’t, I think I’d prefer that over Hell, but there are certainly better alternatives.
To me heaven is a place of getting lavishly blessed. I have been through chronic pain and to this day have done all I can to avoid experiencing that level of pain again. I associate that pain with hell.
To me it’s quite simple if the bible is correct then christians will get rewarded. If there is no God then nobody goes to heaven. Do you really want to risk missing out on an endless blessed life after death if there is a heaven?
Your first mistake is assuming you're reading a "biblical heaven" correctly.
It is a translation of a transcription, that was not narrated directly.
The haven and hell are beyond our imagination, nobady know how haven and hell look like.
But haven is the absolute Paradis.
And hell is the absolute suffering.
It is the best. It is perfect. Sure I want to go. Hell is disease and torture and Torment everyday , all-day, forever.
joy doesn't exist outside the context of contrasting suffering. a place where there is no suffering also holds no joy. so it would be a terrible place to be.
I never worry what Heaven will be like.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/l482T0yNkeoIn biblical times that was cool, they had not internet or modern amenities. They do now however, they have high speed fiber internet, wireless 7G, and 150inch televisions screens everywhere. Also, all streaming is free.
Heaven is empty anyways, maybe some newborn who died seconds after birth are there.
„Picture your grandmother in hell. Baking pies… without an oven.“
- George Carlin
Yes, I'm with you. I want to at least be 20 miles out of town.
We played there once. It was too much of a disco place. Hardly anybody showed up. They closed it up a few weeks later.
Google: Tim Minchin Live Ten Foot C*ck and a Few Hundred Virgins. If you are game. You've been warned.
I guarantee it's better than some of the cities in flyover states in this country.
I can't go to places that I'm not sure exist. Also can't find it on google maps..
I have to qualify to even get in... that is a challenge at times :)
@purplepoppy hopefully someday my soul would be in a happy place much like the ending to that recent Eternity movie 🎥🎥🍿 lol 😆
In the far far future 😄 I've got decades, decades to go
Why do you think that you would have that choice to make?
aliens built the afterlife. Remote viewers talk about it. Its a nice place.
Of course, this is just a fantasy. It doesn't exist.
It honestly beats going to hell.
I've always thought gold to be tacky...
I would prefer to go to Valhalla
Wouldn’t know. Never been there
No idea
