I have been inside a church before, but I am not religious/christian. I remember meeting up in a church to get volunteer training for some Earth day event taking place in a well-known part of my city, and I don't remember the organization being religiously affiliated in any way.

I had no idea there were so many atheists on the site.. In the past the results used to be more evenly distributed between religious people and non-believers

Also, it's possible to visit a church for sightseeing purposes to admire its architecture, or to attend an acquaintance's wedding, even if you're not particularly religious. Which is why I find the answers a bit peculiar

It's a matter of courtesy
The church isn't the right place to get into a theological conversation about the mysteries of the universe
Most people are just being nice, when they wish you a Merry Christmas, or happy Easter, they aren't trying to convert anyone lol
