What year would you wish you were reborn in?

I would want to be either born in the 80s-90s or mid 2000s. I feel too old now but at the same time, I’m glad for what i grew up with. But my age is so weird now. I’m already 26. Befriending people feels weird because nobody seems to be born in 1999. And Even idols i stan are like 2-3 years younger than me, a decade max.

the 50s or 60s.

I miss the type of connection people used to form before the internet where if you wanted to interact with people, you did it face to face. Younger generations will never really have that. My generation has to go through the process of having lost it. The current generation will never know it.

Older generations got to experience the benefits of technology without it becoming all encompassing. They got an easier life but were never consumed by it.

That limits your options tho. For who you make friends with. Like you couldn’t meet someone across the country or in another country.

Technology has it's advantages but also it comes with some pretty large drawbacks.

As for meeting people who are across the country? Most people don't even really know their own neighbours today. The world may have been smaller but it was much more rich in social connections.

You're 26, so you were born in 2000? You missed an entire way of life that people can tell you about, but it'll never be the same. People stayed in far better contact previously then they do today, as hard as that may be to believe. It's true.

Today you're drowning in so many options that everything feels far more shallow and hollow. You meet hundreds, if not thousands of people in the time span most would have previously spent with far fewer people. You may meet them but you don't get to know them.

I'm not that much older than you (more or less) and I only got to see the tail end of the previous era. But I'm telling you... you missed out.

Growing up for me... we spent dam near ever waking moment interacting with one another. In person. We played, laughed, cried, we touched. We connected in a way that is impossible to do through technology.

And that's not to say we didn't have technology. We had TV and radio and phones. Hell, I remember fighting over the phone with siblings because we all wanted to call and talk to our friends after dark. That's despite having spent the entire day interacting with each other in person.

I think anytime from post WWII to 2000 is the golden age for our civilization. There was just enough technology to make life easier but not so much that it became a hindrance. I'm sorry you missed it and I'm sorry I didn't get to experience more of it.

I'd bet you most of your neighbours are actually nice, you simply don't know. And that's what I'm talking about with my choice... mean and young... that's about as well as you know your immediate neighbours. Everyone today lives in their own little bubble and remains in isolation.

But at least you know the name of someone who lives half way around the globe whom you're never going to get to actually meet, right?

World wasn't like that, not so long ago.

50s or 60s would be just about right for me. I'd be retired just about now and sitting on a nice nest egg of wealth... probably go move move myself into a retirement community and be able to use this technology we have now to retain as good a life as you do in your 20s after having spent my days in close connection with the people around me.

I would say 1933 , that would make me 20 years old in 1953 . A lot of oppurtunities in 1950's then. You could get a great job even without college. I would be worth $10 million today instead of $1 million.

My second choice would be in 1960 and I would be 20 in 1980 and the 1980's were great.

I would not want to be born today. Future doesn't look good.

1965 US or Western Europe. Eastern Europe was not funny at this time.1980-1990 was peak of human development and being young adult in this time in "democratic" country was surely fun.

I'm not really picky. Recently, any year that would let me enjoy the 1970s would be great. But, it's a little tricky since that also means, for me, the Vietnam war, which was not fun.

However, I don't mind the past. I basically grew up the way we lived in the 1800s. In fact, in some ways, I still do. So, going back to then wouldn't be much of a problem. Going back further, well, I wouldn't live to be my current age. The further back you go, the more violent it gets. Plus, a simple infection could kill. With what I've been through, there is no way I would live this long.

I'm a freak. A simple life is what I want. Trust me, life today is not simple. It's a pain.

Personally, I would have preferred never to be born and never to face the risks, pain, and uncertainties that come with existence. There is no life completely free from suffering, fear, loss, or hardship , not even the happiest one. Every human life, no matter how beautiful it may appear, still carries vulnerability and an inevitable ending.
