Watching a documentary about San Lucas, an abandoned prison with a dark history, I thought of my mates on Girls ask Guys.

From 1873-1991, San Lucas was a penal island where the most hardened criminals were sent. Even if they were to escape the compound, the prisoners had no where to go but in the ocean, where they would be consumed by hungry sharks.

To ease the brutality of their existence, they painted brilliant artwork on the prison's walls. It depicted religious phrases, their pain and suffering, hatred and loneliness, and sexual acts.

We all have a darker side within us.

Sometimes it manifests in anger, violence, infidelity and other impulsive acts.

I spent a lot of time meditating on my shadow self, my lust, vanity and desire for sexual affection, my wrath and desire for change. My hate and long held wounds from abuse and class struggle as well as the frailty of the mortal form.

It hasn't always been easy, but in accepting and integrating my shadow self I find I'm a fuller, happier and less conflicted person. I find that I get more done, and that I'm less bound by the will of others, particularly when they are not operating in my best interest.

One of the results of this has been an examination of my adult sexual relationships and accepting polyfidelity as a more fulfilling option for myself.

Another has been to let go of a well paying but toxic job, in favor of freedom, entrepreneurial endeavor and a focus on my health and family.

There are times I had my eyes wonder and I have lecherous thoughts. I actually have twice in my life had a random sexual encounters with two attractive women who didn’t even ask my name. They initiated and didn’t care about conversation.

It was thrilling in the moment but I didn’t also feel great about it later I actually tried to slow things down but it felt like it was killing the rush.

I have never did the opposite. I’ve had one night stands where I made the moves first but I did spend some time getting to know the girl first. It’s actually very dangerous nowadays (false allegations) for a man to move that fast. I can’t and won’t do it.

But there is a stereotype that ALL men look at women as “objects” that is grossly overrated. Some definitely do. But I believe to a certain extent most guys do want at least minimal discussion before jumping in.

But really do women still believe that most men think this way? At best only 20% of them would act like this. Not 80%.
