I always thought that New Year's resolutions are completely stupid.
My argument is that if you really wanted acheive something why did you decide to start on New Year instead of earlier. If you TRULY wanted to work towards something you'd have started at the moment and not wait until next year.
My second argument is that these resolutions never really has the "why" attatched to it. If you have a goal, there needs to be a "what" a "why" and a "how" . I'm going to use weight loss for the example since everyone has that for their resolution. People say that their going to lose weight by going to the gym and eating better, but they don't have a real motive. Sure they can say that their motive is to look better or get healthier, but they never look at the long tern and they never take it seriously and by March most of them are back on the couch, stuffing microwaved junk food in their faces and their gym membership collects more dust than the bible your parents got you but you never notice it even exists until I just now brought it up.
I started my weight loss journey back in September when I saw the number 275 on the scale. I was 230 a year before and I knew that if I didn't do something that number was only going up and I'll be on an episode of "My 600 Pound Life" by age 30. So for the sake of my future self I started doing MMA and going to the gym more, and so far I've lost 25 pounds.
I know plenty of people who do these resolutions. They were fat fucks working a crappy jobs in 2018, and they're fat fucks working crappy jobs in 2019 and now they're fat fucks working a crappy jobs in 2020.
Don't get me wrong. Goals are great and I think everyone should strive to be the best versions of themselves and I wish everyone nothing but success. But stop putting goals in a form of New Year's "resolutions", put goals in the form of LONG TERM success and keep the far future in mind.
